I think the only way to deal with the Sim manager is the same way you're going to deal with your drunk-*** uncle at the family meal next week.

Avoid him any way possible; and if he does manage to get to you, just go along with his bullshit and wipe it from your mind immediately after.

Agreed. The Sim is an algorithm that was probably created in the early 2000s or late 1990s. It is not going to think like a human or a Watson-like AI. It will constantly do stupid things from a managerial perspective. We will all continue to play this game despite the well documented stupid decisions that the Sim makes.

My bet is that we will all continue to play because there is no better substitute out there and many of us have put too much effort into running our teams.

To answer the question, I have not found the sweet spot, but I tend to start the season with having my best rated pitchers with a 1 pull rating, my average pitchers with a 2 pull and any other guys with something between 3-5 pull. As the season continues, I tweak. Also, I try really hard not to check box scores unless I notice something off (i.e. injury, staff seems gassed, if a guy in a slump finally broke out of it, etc.).

For the amateur draft has anyone ever had or seen the guy that ‘probably won’t sign’ take the first deal? I f’ed up and have a ‘might sign’ first rounder and a ‘probably won’t sign’ as a 3rd with 10 million in the bank. I’m hoping the ‘probably won’t sign’ will reject the deal in time for me to bump up my offer for my ‘might sign’ guy and all will be well. If the ‘probably won’t sign’ guy takes his stupid 6 million I might have to punt on my first rounder.

Yes, but only once. Check the Riley HOF for Dorsyss Canseco. I know I remember he was a "probably won't sign", and he took the very first offer, because the owner remarked on it in world chat at the time.

Oh crap. I remember that.

Why did you even offer the 3rd rounder a deal? No one said you have to. Even if you get a Type D for him it ain't worth much. Anyway there's very little chance he'll accept, and by the way I had your first rounder very highly ranked too.

I get greedy. I like having as many picks as possible. So in theory (best case scenario) he says he wants more money, I say no, take that money for my first round pick, get my guys and get extra picks next year.

Worst case scenario (knowing my luck) he will say sure and sign for 6 million. My first rounder will want more money that I don't have and I'll have to punt away my first round pick for this year with a pretty deep draft.

Edit: You convinced me. This years draft is just too good to risk in on a guy I don't even know will crack my majors (this year 3rd or next years 3rd)

This one was from a couple of years ago in one of my leagues but I'm curious to see what everyone says.

You post in the league chat and say 'I am looking for X type of player'

Another owner (probably a newer owner) makes you an offer, offering up the perfect type of player, young, great ratings, under contract or still in their rookie year and asks for total crap back. Either players that will never make the majors or aging vets who will lose all their ratings in a year. Needless to say its a very lopsided trade and as a veteran owner you can see this.

Do you agree to the trade, hoping it will go through and try to justify your actions on the league chat when other veteran owners accuse you of fleecing the other owner.

Do you add in some of your own players and prospects to make the trade better for your opposition knowing that the trade probably won't go through unless you give a little more back?

Hockey

If you really want that player, then yea you should prob counter or tc the owner with a fairer offer. You try to push a bad deal through, and it get vetoed, now all the other owners know that X player is available and evidently for dirt cheap.

I loved Nipsey so much....and I had the pick in front of you with Nipsey ranked 3rd on my board...

I’m just a newbie and had my settings set so it wouldn’t take a doubtful in the 1R.

I wound up with a really nice pitcher for pretty modest $$ but it still hurts. At least I got this *stud* with my comp pick.

Edit: I saw Nipsey signed, and it doesn’t look like he will come near to the 95-84-89 ctrl/splits my 20 million scouts saw in him. Peraza is better right now and younger, although Nipsey will likely improve much more. Even though my sheer incompetence lead me to draft my #14 guy over my #3 guy, it is all going to work out fine.

For all these reasons and the ones already mentioned, yeah I'd pimp the deal up to make it respectable. And to help the other owner out. Maybe I'm old school, but when I do a good deal with an owner I'm establishing working grounds for possible future deals.

Which arm is used by the pitcher during the home run derby?

Nipsy still looks close to my projections. Over 90 for control. Close to 95 for stamina but maybe only 20-21 for durability, 75’s for splits with a first pitch in the 90’s. Pretty much if he is a 3 or 4 SP that is a good draft picking in the 20’s.

cubcub, your guy I had ranked in the teens but then looking back at it I don’t remember why. When I look at him now I see the next Thomas Rosario from my team. And that is a pretty good spot to be.

Lol the owner was SAKABAKABERG, I didn’t think I’d get accused of fleecing a new owner when the dude has had 100 more seasons then me. But yeah, adding a little more to improve relations is never a bad idea.

For whatever it's worth, I had these two prospects ranked one right after the other. Flip a dang coin.
