Brewers hire Rick Peterson as pitching coach, reportedly paying him about the same amount Mike Maddux is making with Texas.

Sweet.

The Astros have claimed Jason Bourgeois off waivers.

JJ Hardy sent to the Twins for Carlos Gomez.

A little disappointing that Hardy's value was so low.. was hoping he'd be packaged with Gamel for a pitcher.

Gomez and his lack of OBP skills should fit right in with the Brew Crew.

I saw Gomez's best game with the Twins... his first. He bunted and ran all over the place. All down hill from there. I like this move for the Twins.

Only draw back is Span will play CF everyday which kills our flexibility we had last year using him in all 3 spots. However having one less OF will help clear that up.

It's not often you see a one-for-one trade of .229 hitters.

Brewers decline option on David Weathers, which was for $3.7M (with a $400,000 buyout)

Someone on Brewerfan.net is concerned that the Brewers' next free-agent signing will be

Suppan 2: Junkball Boogaloo.

For some reason that really cracks me up.

Melvin said he couldn't find any pitching he liked for Hardy (shocker), so he got someone that can help the pitchers out.

UGGGHHH.
11/6/2009 2:28 PM
Wow, even I think Hardy's worth MUCH more than Gomez.

J.J. Hardly, we hardly knew ye!!

Boston media reporting that the Red Sox were in on the Hardy discussions but that the Brewers wanted Buchholz or Bard. Brewers were not interested in Bowden, who the Red Sox were willing to part with.

Melvin told the Detroit Free Press that he did not even contact the Tigers because they do not have the young pitching he was looking for in return.

Instead, it would seem, the Crew will end up going hard after someone like Washburn (um, is that young pitching, Dougie?) and taking a risk on some rehab project like Mulder.
