MLD World Thread #2 Topic

I see your thinking there okp, but under that scenario there is still the chance of an owner loading up an all-playoff team, perhaps even for multiple seasons, and isn't that what caused all this discussion in the first place?

If the key issue that irks some owners is facing a different team in the playoffs than the one that played the majority of the regular season, then we're talking about a roster freeze or limit of some kind.

You know what, the system we have right now, which most of us seem to agree is flawed, does work, and we all know how to use it. If you want to change things, it's fine with me, but if you want to leave it as is, that's fine too.

I havet read all the postings on the issue of warehousing, but i'll add my 2 cents anyways.

As far as I understand the idea of the MLD, its to be a realistic as possible, and warehousing seems to go against the spirit of this. It's like putting Lemiux or Orr in carbonite like Han Solo when they reach their peak only to defrost them for a playoff run, only to put them in carbonite again. Not very realistic.

I have used this practice too, I'd be stupid not to, but it just doesn't seem right. I know its a sim, and is a managerial tool for this virtual sport, and it doesn't really give anyone an advantage because we can all do it if we chose.

But it does seem to go against the grain of the MLD idea, so on that point I would vote to ban it.

Perhaps a phasing out. Next year only 4 warehoused players, the year after 2, then kaput.

well, I just read some postings, and it seems the issue is not so clear cut as I thought.

I would vote for OKP's idea of 10 play off season then kaput, seems fair and gives teams flexibility to use low stamina guys without penelty, and give the teams the ability to use the minors to develop late round picks into decent roster players.

Polka polka good good

i actually like the idea of any player playing less than 20 games being ineligible for the playoffs, maybe with the exception of the previous years draftees to account for possible injuries. it would let owners warehouse as many players as they want, both at the beginning or end of their careers, but limit their usefulness. :>

btw, i actually took my regular season leading goal scorer out of the lineup for the playoffs because i had some warehouse players that had better "numbers". in retrospect, i think that might have been a bad move. :?

Exactly mike, it's not a guarantee of anything... I have botched my team several seasons by swapping in a "better" lineup.

Very true. Paper attributes vs. player chemistry in reg season - tough call.

Great post Hellbent. The parts I bolded above are and is exactly what has been on my mind for awhile now concerning the warehoused players and their ability to be "defrosted" for playoffs. That and their ability to "live forever" under our current setup just doesn't seem very realistic.

And although it doesn't really address, effect or correct the "live forever" aspect of our existing setup, I do admit, I kinda like the alternative idea of making it so only players who play 20+ regular season games are eligible for playoffs. Just think about it, that would add a fresh challenge and a whole new level of management to the MLD in that GMs would essentially have to not only work to get into the playoffs, but ensure they have a qualified enough roster, skillwise and manpower-wise to see their team go the distance en route to the Cup. Interesting

I think that would be too harsh, too difficult to police, and too limiting... allowing 1-2 exceptions would be a happy medium. It's not any more "realistic" to allow a team zero flexibility in the playoffs than it is to swap in a whole new team.

I've fallen victim to teams in the playoffs that bring up warehoused players at least twice in recent seasons. I'm all for warehousing players, it's a part of this league, and doing so now allows players to develop in the minors. That intern allows a GM to build his team up so there's a chance at having a shot at the playoffs almost every season.

My suggestion is to start counting playoff games as a part of a players career. If GM X plays a player 19 regular season games, and then plays that player even 1 playoff game, then that player is credited with playing a full season. I'd also be in favor of banning players that haven't played 20 regular season games too. I don't know how many GMs have players suffer injuries in the playoffs, but personally it hasn't happened to my team in a very long time.(knock on wood)

I've been to the Cup finals 3 times, and came up empty every time. I still hope like hell I can win one, but sometimes I feel like it my never happen, and that I have no idea what works and what doesn't with this crazy thing we call the MLD.

Aliens missing a franchise player in season 19, picks D-man Tommy Smith as their new FP.

Seth Nurmenheimo, Kingston's outgoing FP retired with 499 regular career points. So close to the elusive 500 point mark!! I suspect he might have challenged Sparky Clemons for the all time points crown if it hadn't been for a handfull of season where he played only 50 something games.... sigh aw well

Kingston's new FP is Herb Blazer!
