Brewers : Back in First Place Topic

I think the Brewers are done spending money at catcher now. They will look at recent waiver-wire pickup Kottaras or minor leaguers Salome or Lucroy to share time. Mike Rivera might get a shot as well though I suspect they will set him free.-

His full name is Gregory...so why the hell does he go by "Gregg"?

He goes by 'Zorro' after nightfall.

Brewers also sign OF Trent Oeltjen to a minor league deal with spring training invite. Former Twins prospect, had a "quadruple double" in the minors last season (2B, 3B, HR, SB).

The Brewers claimed some nobody infielder off waivers from the Pirates. Lifetime .656 OPS in the minors. I'm thinking he's not very good. Luis Cruz is his name.

Brewers reportedly making strong push for Randy Wolf. Some are saying that a Wolf signing is "imminent" (without naming the team), while Doug Melvin says his agent isn't even at the meetings yet.

According to Jeff Fletcher of AOL Fanhouse, the Brewers "have entertained offers from multiple teams" on outfielder Corey Hart.
The Brewers are hoping to land some pitching help for the 27-year-old Hart, who hit .260/.335/.418 with 12 home runs in 472 at-bats this past season. A deal with the Mets involving 28-year-old right-hander John Maine has been discussed, but those talks may already be dead.

ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick has heard that the Brewers will tender right-hander Dave Bush a contract by the December 12 deadline.
Bush was believed to be a non-tender candidate with the way he finished the 2009 season, but the Brewers are low on starting pitching and are preparing to buck up for free agent -hander Randy Wolf. The right-handed Bush went 5-9 this past season with a 6.38 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.

Randy Wolf gets 3 years, 27 million from the Brew Crew.

Wolf agrees to three-year deal with option for fourth year, $29.5M guaranteed... though the club stated earlier that they wanted to add two starting pitchers to the roster they are now thought to be focusing on late-inning relief help, with names like Kevin Gregg, Mike Gonzalez, and LaTroy Hawkins being tossed about.

Having failed to get pitching for JJ Hardy, it appears that any other starters added will be of the bargain basement type. If that doesn't spell "playoffs" I don't know what does.

And it's Hawkins reportedly signing a two-year deal, money not announced yet.

The Brewers did not tender contracts to relievers Seth McClung and Mark DeFelice and catcher Mike Rivera.

McClung and Macha had a strained relationship, DeFelice will miss all of 2010 after shoulder surgery, and Rivera was never viewed by the organization as anything more than a backup catcher.
