Your wife threw that out when she put your balls in her purse.

Who does Roy Halladay think he is demanding a trade before Spring Training when we all know he'll OK at trade at the deadline when the Jays are 30 games out?
12/1/2009 1:47 PM
He's one of the top pitchers in baseball. I assume, due to his contract status, he knows that he can make demands as the Jays want to get something in return. I'm not 100% convinced he'll accept a deal at the deadline. At that point, it seems to me that the best course of action is to test free agency.

Did you like the spin FSU put on the coaching move? They made it look like Bowden on his own when it appears they would only allow him to stay as a figurehead.
12/1/2009 3:02 PM
I think Bowden probably should have stepped down. He's done great things for FSU. Chasing Paterno when he's hardly coaching was not one of them. College coaches stay too long. Bowden would be a great figurehead. Have him pop in every now and then when the new coach is recruiting a top player. Imagine the WOW factor of that if he only saw 4-5 players a year?

Why is the Tiger Woods saga dragging on over a car accident? Why are people so obsessed with it?
12/1/2009 5:09 PM
Mostly because people like to see those on top fall back down. The story that's out isn't true. I think most of us realize that. I don't know how Tiger makes it go away but sticking to "My wife courageously broke out the back window with a golf club to free me" isn't going to do it.

Is it a big deal that he has marital problems and his wife slapped him which caused him to drive like a maniac away from his house?

It probably happens to most married folks at least once on their lives, does it not?

So he had an affair, society accepts that - especially with celebrities.

Do you still dislike Lincoln and Obama because one's a Negro and one freed them?
12/1/2009 6:13 PM
It is because he's one of the most well-known, if not the most well-known, sports figures in the world.

It may. But no one cares if it happens to you.

I dislike Lincoln because he started the bloodiest war in American history without making attempts to resolve the issue peacefully. I don't dislike Obama yet. I just fail to see what he's done except "not be Bush". Which seems to be enough for his supporters. I expect more from my President. I'm not Bush. Doesn't make me a good Presidential choice.

I'll bite. What exactly should Lincoln have done to prevent the War Between The States?

What do you think of Obama's proposal to start a phased withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2012? Is that a wise strategic decision regarding the war or is he just pandering to American public opinion?

No idea what he should have done. I wasn't there. But the commander of Fort Moultrie moved, without orders, to the unfinished Fort Sumter in December. There was no attack and they were free to leave at any time. In January, Lincoln attempted to send supply ships to FS. Shots were fired across the bow to turn them around. Anyone with a semi-functional brain would understand that the plan was to wait them out. There was no food supply on FS. But still no attack on troops. In April, Lincoln ordered a fleet of warships, with reinforcements, to FS. And the Civil War started. Seems "defending" an unfinished fort was rather stupid. As late as early April, the troops could have peacefully withdrawn. Maybe the Civil War happens anyway. I'm sure it does. But, as best I can tell, Lincoln became obsessed with taking/keeping Fort Sumter. THAT seems to be a stupid reason to kill thousands of Americans.

I think telling the enemy the time frame for withdrawal is stupid. If you're going out of town, you don't leave a note on the door for the burglars. He is pandering. I think Gitmo was going to be closed by year end. That's not happening either but it's what people needed to hear.

Maybe the Americans should leave the lights on when they leave Afganistan. What do you think?
