Game 76: The Riders match St. Louis' 10 hits but do a lot less with them, dropping the series opener 6-3.

Game 77: Tommy John outpitches Nolan Ryan, who allows an uncharacteristic 13 hits to Milwaukee, as the Riders win 5-2 to even the series. John improves to 9-6 on the season.

Game 78: The Riders move within two games of the division lead as Britt Burns beats the Pi 4-3 and wins his 11th game of the season. Frank Taveras hits a double and a triple and scores two runs.

The homestand will continue with two games each against Kansas City and Houston.

Game 79: Jon Matlack's nightmare season continues as KC pounds him for five runs in 3+ innings, sending the Riders to a 9-2 defeat. Matlack falls to 2-8 for the season.

Game 80: Lary Sorensen pitches six scoreless innings and the Riders beat Dennis Leonard 2-0, getting a solo home run from Hal McRae in the first and an RBI double from Damaso Garcia in the third. Rich Gossage finishes things off for his 27th save.

Game 81: Tommy John's recent hot streak comes to an end as he allows six runs in five innings and the Hooligans pound Milwaukee 11-3.

Milwaukee puts two pitchers on the AL All Star team: Britt Burns and Rich Gossage.

Game 82: The homestand starts to turn ugly as 4-7 Gaylord Perry shuts the Riders down and the Hooligans erupt for five runs off Ron Reed in the seventh to ice an 8-2 win. The Riders fall to four behind in the division, with three teams now ahead of them.

Baltimore and Chicago are next up on the homestand.

Game 83: Jon Matlack finally pitches a good game, but the Riders' skid extends to three games as the offense is silent. Riders lose to Baltimore, 4-0.

Game 84: The Riders are shut out again, two-hit by Wayne Garland and Doug Bair, dropping a 5-0 decision to Baltimore.

Game 85: Milwaukee finally ends the skid, blowing a 3-0 lead but winning in the bottom of the ninth when Frank Taveras doubles home Jeffrey Leonard.

Game 86: Tom Seaver outpitches Britt Burns for seven innings, then Ron Reed allows five runs and effectively ends all hope as the White Sox win 7-1.

Pittsburgh and Detroit are in town next.

Game 87: The Riders get consecutive four-run innings off Pittsburgh starter Roger Erickson and go on to a 10-6 win. Jon Matlack gets his third win of the season. Bill Madlock has four hits and Willie Aikens drives in four runs.

Game 88: Hal McRae and Richie Hebner drive in three runs each as the Riders take their second straight 10-6 victory over the Dutchmen.

Game 89: Detroit takes advantage of a Frank Taveras error and scores three times in the third inning and keeps the Riders from doing any damage with men on base; Milwaukee squanders a 13-hit, four-SB performance in a 6-4 loss.

Game 90: Britt Burns takes a pounding from the Tigers and falls to 11-8 as the Riders lose big, 12-6.

Visits from New York, Oakland, and San Diego will finish the homestand and complete interleague play for the season.

Game 91: Jon Matlack, Rick Sutcliffe, and Sammy Stewart combine for a "masterful" 10-hit shutout of the Brakers as Milwaukee takes a 5-0 win. Jerry Mumphrey is the offensive star with two hits and two runs scored.

Game 92: Milwaukee falls back to .500 as they suffer a 1-0 loss to the Brakers, shut down by Milt Wilcox (who wins his 10th game) and two relievers.

Game 93: Another day, another opposing pitcher gets his 10th win against the Riders; this time it's Jim Clancy, who throws a complete game 3-hitter as Oakland takes Milwaukee down, 4-1.

Game 94: Britt Burns' magical season is slowly crumbling; he allows eight runs before leaving in the fourth inning and the Zoo humble the Riders 12-6.

Game 95: San Diego gets no extra base hits, but 16 singles are more than enough to turn the trick as the Riveras beat Milwaukee 9-3.

Game 96: Milwaukee ends a not-very-successful homestand with a 6-3 win, scoring three runs off San Diego reliever Greg Minton in the eighth to pull it out.

A nice short nine-game trip is next, starting in Minnesota.

Game 97: Tommy John allows only one run in seven innings and the Riders beat the Mooseheads 4-1 in the series opener. It's John's 10th win of the season (against nine losses).

Game 98: Denny Walling's fourth hit is a two-run double in the 12th inning, and the Riders beat Minnesota 5-1.

Game 99: Another horrible outing from Jon Matlack (3IP, 6ER) leads to a 10-3 defeat in Minnesota.

The road trip continues in Cleveland.

Game 100: The Riders do well at the plate but their work in the field leaves much to be desired as they commit three errors, one behind each pitcher who works, and allow six unearned runs in a 10-7 loss. Hal McRae has two of the errors and will be moved posthaste to DH.

Game 101: Tommy John allows only an unearned run in seven innings of work and Rick Sutcliffe adds two scoreless innings for his first save of the season as Milwaukee beats the Saltdogs 5-1.

Game 102: Milwaukee drops the finale 7-5 and loses the series as a result. The bullpen fails in this one as Cleveland scores six runs over the final three innings.

The Riders will finish the trip in Anaheim.

Game 103: The Riders are shut down by Rich Gale and a respectable performance by Jon Matlack is wasted as the Angels take the opener, 4-1.

Game 104: The Riders get some good relief pitching and turn two walks to start the 10th inning into two runs as they beat the Angels 4-2. Rich Gossage gets his 32nd save.

Game 105: Tommy John loses it in the fifth inning and Dave LaRoche allows a two-run homer to the first batter he faces when he replaces him, giving Anaheim a five-run inning and sparking them to a 6-4 win.

The dejected Riders head home to face the Mammoths.

Game 106: Britt Burns pitches six scoreless innings and improves to 12-9 as the Riders beat New York 3-1 to open the homestand.

Game 107: Rick Sutcliffe's relief stint consists of three consecutive walks and a sacrifice fly. Another sac fly later in the inning provides the Mammoths with the winning run and the Riders fall 4-3.

Game 108: Mike Easler and Jerry White hit consecutive homers off Sammy Stewart in the 10th inning and the Mammoths take the series with a 6-4 victory.

Georgia Force is in town next.

Game 109: Steve Trout dominates the Riders, who don't score until the ninth, by which time they are already down 5-0. The rally ends when Damaso Garcia is picked off first base, and the Force beat Milwaukee 5-3.

Game 110: With two down in the ninth, Milwaukee rallies to tie the score and force extra innings. Atlanta scores in the 10th but Milwaukee rallies back again, getting a leadoff triple from Damaso Garcia and an RBI single from Bill Madlock. In the 11th, the Atlanta settles matters forcefully, ripping off eight runs off Sammy Stewart and Dave LaRoche. Milwaukee, humbled, loses 12-4.

Game 111: Bill Madlock hits a three-run homer in the third and Wayne Nordhagen adds a two-run shot in the fifth as the Riders salvage the series finale, 7-4. Jon Matlack gets the win, pitching into the seventh and allowing only three runs.

We're off to Wrigley to face the Goats.

Game 112: The Riders leave a ton of runners on base, including two each in the 4th, 7th, and 9th innings, and lose the opener in Chicago 6-4.

Game 113: Jerry Mumphrey has three hits and two RBI and Tommy John moves back above .500 as the Riders score a 5-3 win over Chicago. Rich Gossage pitches the ninth for his 35th save.

Game 114: Britt Burns cruises through four, then gets pounded in the fifth, leaving with two outs as the Goats put six on the board. Things don't get any better for Milwaukee after that, and they drop the finale 13-3.

The Riders head to Cincinnati to finish this short road trip.

Game 115: Former Rider Bill Lee throws 3.1 scoreless innings in relief to help the Communists beat Milwaukee 7-3 in the series opener.

Game 116: Sammy Stewart finds another way to lose a game, allowing a home run to the first batter he faces, Mike Schmidt, in the bottom of the 10th. Cincy wins, 4-3.

Game 117: Hal McRae hits his 40th double and Tommy John pitches into the ninth as the Riders beat the Communists 7-2 to avoid a sweep. Rich Gossage gets the final two outs for his 36th save.

The Riders start a homestand with a visit from Washington next.

Game 118: Andre Dawson's three-run homer off (who else?) Sammy Stewart caps a four-run sixth for the Commandos and they take the opener 6-2.

Game 119: Jon Matlack gets his sixth win; Bill Madlock and Wayne Nordhagen drive in two runs apiece and the Riders win 5-3 to even the series.

Game 120: Milwaukee is 2-hit by three Washington pitchers and Andre Dawson drives home three runs as the Commandos take the series with an 8-1 win.

Philadelphia is in town next.

Game 121: Hal McRae has three hits and drives in the lead run in a 4-run seventh as the Riders beat Philly 6-4. Rich Gossage gets his 38th save.

Game 122: Sammy Stewart strikes again; he allows a two-rujn homer to Steve Kemp in the 11th and Milwaukee drops a 5-3 decision.

Game 123: Jon Matlack pitches seven shutout innings and the Riders win a dramatic 1-0 game as Willie Aikens homers with one down in the bottom of the ninth to provide the game's only scoring.

Minnesota is in town next.
