Game 65: Montreal gets two RBI singles in the ninth to tie the game at three. Steve Olin throws a scoreless bottom half and the game goes to extras. Amazingly, the two tired bullpens both pitch scoreless ball through the 14th. In the 15th, Ken Griffey Jr. walks with two outs and then scores on Ken Caminiti's double. Scott Erickson, having been called on to get the last two outs in the 14th, works around a one-out walk in the bottom half to preserve the win.
Game 66: The Bronx entry evens things up with an identical 4-3 win; David Wells outduels Chuck Finley, who falls to 2-10. Ken Griffey Jr. homers but his RBI pace has fallen off dramatically.. now at 45.
We head west to Dodger Stadium to face the Looters.

Game 67: Trying to protect a 5-2 lead, Tony Fossas allows hits to three of the four batters he faces in the bottom of the eighth. They all score, allowing LA to tie the score. Montreal goes 1-2-3 in the ninth, and the Looters score off Tom Edens in the bottom half to win 5-4.
Game 68: Apparently disgusted by the bullpen's inability to hold a lead, the Spectres refuse to score in the second game, falling 2-0 at the hands of Bob Ojeda.
Game 69: The Spectre pitchers don't walk a batter, and the hitters put together a three-run rally in the eighth, but in the end the Looters win it in 10, 6-5, on Chris Sabo's home run.
We're coming home to face Atlanta.

Game 70: Montreal loses it's fifth straight game, 8-1, to visiting Atlanta. The game is a pitcher's duel at first, tied 1-1 after seven, but the Bull Run put three on the board off Bill Sampen in the eighth and four more in the ninth off Steve Olin to finish us off. Jay Buhner homers for the first time since returning to the lineup but is hitting .224 for the season.
Game 71: Chuck Finley does not pitch well, allowing six runs in six innings, but is facing an exhausted Jeff Robinson.. the Spectres pound Robinson and give Finley his third win of the season, 10-7. Ken Griffey Jr. hits a three-run homer to reach 50 RBI. Darrick Hensel has four hits and Finley himself is 3-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Game 72: The Spectres score eight runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding lead, but poor fielding lets the Bull Run back into it when they put five on the board in the eighth. The game goes to extras, where Darrick Hensel wins it, driving home Greg Gagne with an 11th-inning double.
Montreal heads to Texas to take on Houston (36-36).

Game 73: Montreal leaves the bases loaded in the ninth, sending the game to extras tied 3-3. Nobody threatens until the 12th, when Houston's Lance Johnson singles and steals with one out. Bill Sampen retires the next batter, but Charlie O'Brien delivers a game-winning single to .
Game 74: Bret Saberhagen, 2-6 despite an ERA well under 3.00, gets plenty of offensive support in this one as the Lone Stars crush Montreal 9-1. Bill Krueger takes another beating, dropping his record to 2-8. Montreal gets only three hits.
Game 75: This is nearly a repeat of the previous game, though the Spectres muster seven hits in this one and hold Houston to "only" eight runs. For what seems like the 10th time this season, Jay Buhner's solo home run is the only scoring for Montreal.
We host Chicago next.

Game 76: Chicago leadoff man Steve Sax hits two doubles and drives home four runs to help the Bootleggers deal Chuck Finley his 11th loss, 7-4. Two errors by Randy Velarde lead to two unearned runs charged to Finley.
Game 77: Steve Sax has three more hits and three runs scored while Juan Guzman strikes out 10 with no walks in six innings as the Bootleggers win another one, 5-1.
Game 78: We keep Sax in check in the finale, but the Bootleggers have no trouble completing the sweep with a 9-1 win. Once again Jay Buhner accounts for the lone Spectre run, this time with an RBI double.
We head west to face San Francisco next.

Game 79: Leadoff man Tony Phillips has three hits, including a home run, but 69er Ken Hill has the rest of the Montreal lineup solved. The Spectres get only five hits in all and drop the opener 3-1, dropping Bill Krueger to 2-9.
Game 80: The bullpen throws four scoreless innings and Ken Caminiti hits a big two-run double in the seventh to lead Montreal to a 4-3 win.
Game 81: Chuck Finley shuts down the 69er bats and Ken Caminiti hits a grand slam home run in the sixth as the Spectres close the first half of the season with a series win over Frisco, 4-1 in the finale. Finley improves to 4-11.
At the break we're 28-53, 21st in the league in runs scored and 18th in ERA. The poor offensive showing is a bit of a surprise as the '90 version of this team was productive at the plate. However, Pete O'Brien is hitting .188 and Jay Buhner only .207. After a strong start, Ken Griffey Jr. is at .292 with 13 homers, 51 RBI and a .469 slugging percentage. Caminiti now leads with 54 RBI. Buhner ranks second to Griffey Jr. with 11 homers but has only 27 RBI.
Dennis Rasmussen has been the most effective starter with a 3.83 ERA (4-4 record). Bill Krueger (2-9) and Finley (4-11) are both seven games under .500. Rick Aguilera has been fantastic with a 0.86 WHIP, 1.54 ERA, and 13 saves.

Rick Aguilera is the only Spectre representative in the 1991 All Star Game, though former Spectre Andre Dawson also made it.
Montreal starts the second half with a visit from Cincinnati.
Game 82: For the third straight game, Montreal scores four runs.. and for the third straight game, the pitching staff turns that meager output into a victory. Scott Erickson throws eight shutout innings and Tony Fossas finishes off a 4-0 shutout of the Stingers. Ken Caminiti hits a two-run single in the first to get things started.
Game 83: Another shutout, but this time the wrong way as long-time nemesis Charlie Hough throws seven 3-hit innings in a 7-0 Stinger win.
Game 84: Mark Carreon drives home his first run of the season, and Pete O'Brien scores on a wild pitch by Tom Gordon as the Spectres take the series with a 3-2 win. The bullpen throws 3.2 scoreless innings in relief of Bill Krueger.
Interleague series coming up with Cleveland, Boston, and Chicago.

Game 85: Cleveland, 18-66 coming in, unexpectedly explodes for a nine-run seventh inning off a series of Spectre relievers on the way to a 14-3 win. Former Spectre Oil Can Boyd throws a complete game for the win, his fourth of the season against 10 losses.
Game 86: Montreal doesn't show a lot of power, as only Jay Buhner has an extra base hit, but the Spectres destroy Cleveland with 11 runs in the third on the way to a 14-6 win. Chuck Finley is ineffective (five runs in 6.1 innings) but earns his fifth win. Ken Griffey Jr. and Gus Roth have four hits each; Buhner has a single, double and home run.
Game 87: Montreal rallies for four runs in the ninth inning, getting four separate RBI hits, and beats the Brawn 5-2. Rick Aguilera strikes out Luis Rivera with men on the corners in the bottom half to earn his 15th save.
Game 88: Alex Fernandez allows only two unearned runs in eight innings of work, and Rick Aguilera throws a scoreless ninth to preserve a 3-2 win over the swept Brawn.
Game 89: The good feelings do not follow us to Chicago, where the White Sox get four hits from leadoff man Willie Randolph and a complete game six-hitter from Bryn Smith to beat the Spectres 9-1.
Game 90: Montreal finishes this interleague stretch with a 4-2 record after shutting out the White Sox 4-0. Dennis Rasmussen throws six scoreless innings for his fifth win of the season. Pete O'Brien is the top performer on offense with two singles and an RBI (raising his season batting average to .202).
We head west to take on San Diego (32-58).

Game 91: Montreal gets homers from Pete O'Brien and Ken Caminiti, scoring five in the eighth to take a 6-5 lead, but Jim Gott gives the lead back in the bottom half on a homer by Pedro Guerrero, his second of the game. We go to extras and the Leaguers end it in the 12th, scoring a run on AAA infielder Sean Pittman's error.
Game 92: Montreal comes from behind again, this time tying the score with a run in the ninth on Jose Canseco's error. For the second straight day, the game is decided in the 12th, this time when San Diego's Jose Oquendo makes a bad throw that allows Mark Carreon to score the eventual winner. Bill Sampen allows a two-out single in the bottom half but earns the save.
Game 93: AAA infielder Sean Pittman, who cost the Spectres in the field in the series opener, commits FOUR errors in the finale. Those miscues, along with one from Jay Buhner, give San Diego 6 unearned runs in a 7-5 win.
We head back East, visiting Atlanta next.

Game 94: The opener in Atlanta is a wild one; Pete O'Brien hits home runs in the sixth, seventh, and ninth innings; AAA catcher Derrick Hensel hits a pinch-hit, bases loaded double, and the Spectres put seven runs on the board in the ninth to win 13-7. O'Brien reaches double digits with his home run barrage and drives home six runs. Ken Griffey Jr. has four hits, including a double and home run, and moves within one RBI of Ken Caminiti for the team lead (Caminiti has 63).
Game 95: Dennis Rasmussen goes over .500 as the Spectres destroy a series of tired Atlanta pitchers to win 12-4. Tony Phillips and Mark Carreon drive in three runs apiece; Phillips and Ken Griffey Jr. each have three hits. Rasmussen throws six solid innings for his sixth win.
Game 96: Chuck Finley is victimized by his own poor pitching and by an error from Ken Caminiti that leads to four unearned Atlanta runs. Montreal rallies furiously but falls just short, dropping the finale 10-9 despite hittin three homers. Caminiti not only costs the team four runs in the field but strands six baserunners.
We return to Montreal to host Los Angeles.

Game 97: This time it's the Spectres taking advantage of another team's fielding mishaps.. Montreal scores five unearned runs off Randy Johnson and beats the Looters 9-3. Scott Erickson improves to 8-8 and Alex Fernandez throws three innings for his first career save.
Game 98: Los Angeles collects 13 hits, 10 off starter Bill Krueger, but is not very efficient with them. The Montreal bullpen throws 3.2 scoreless frames and the Spectres win 6-4 behind a three-run double by Jay Buhner. Rick Aguilera notches his 17th save.
Game 99: Montreal takes a 7-4 lead when they put four on the board in the seventh with three consecutive run-scoring singles, but Bill Sampen gives it all back (and then some). LA scores five in the eighth for a comeback 9-7 win.
We head to St. Louis to face the 71-28 Blue Storm.

Game 100: Ken Caminiti commits two errors, giving him 26 for the season, and Chuck Finley allows four unearned runs (out of 10) in his 13th loss of the season, 10-4. Pete O'Brien has three hits including his 11th home run.
Game 101: Scott Erickson throws 6.2 shutout innings but Tony "The Fireman" Fossas allows St. Louis to tie the score at two in the eighth, and the Blue Storm win it in the 10th with two more runs off Bill Sampen. Montreal can generate nothing beyond solo homer by Ken Griffey Jr. and an RBI double by Gus Roth.
Game 102: Though Montreal had basically conceded the game by starting Kyle Mantanguihan and Gus Roth, the Spectres avoid a sweep with a three-run rally in the ninth, capped by Mantanguihan's RBI single to score Pete O'Brien. Rick Aguilera works around some trouble in the bottom half and the Spectres win 5-4.
We return home to face Houston.
