The point is that even the top player in the country could decide to come back, so there's no real benefit to comparing two players. All that tells you is where they might be drafted, not why one would leave and one would stay.

Seble, in real life players decide on whether to go pro almost entirely based on their predicted draft position. In HD that is far from the truth. Why is there such a disconnect in this area from real life?
11/10/2009 8:32 PM
Their decision is very strongly connected to projected draft position.

then why do so many leave early and end up being drafted at the end of the 2nd round? That isn't very realistic.

No offense seble, but a players decision to leave school is much more connected to his teams postseason performance then his draft position.

Their projected draft position is determined by ratings and postseason success. Their decision to leave is then based on that projected draft position and some other factors, such as their current class, along with some randomness. I absolutely cannot explain it any more directly than that.

That's very clear, and pretty logical even. The problem is the current impact of postseason success on projected draft position is not necessarily logical. If you fixed the weight values of ratings vs. postseason success to sway a whole lot more toward ratings, the whole thing would be a lot more logical.

It won't artificially increase parity like the current system, but I'm not sure why that's a goal for early entry anyway.

Exactly cmthieme. Post seasons success is weighted much too heavily, which leads to the perception that ratings don't matter at all if any.

I'm sure there is room for improvement in the process, I just wanted to explain clearly how it works because I've been getting a lot of tickets to the effect of "Why did player A leave but player B didn't when player B is better".

I think that that shows that there is a lot of displeasure in the way Early Entries are handled and that it should be a top priority in fixing, over things like Duribility and Rankings, Early Entries effect teams directly, while rankings are window dressing and duribility, well why add something more to the game when what is already included needs to be fixed?
11/11/2009 8:11 AM
Early entries affect a handful of teams, whereas everything in the upcoming release affects all teams and are bigger issues.
11/11/2009 8:13 AM
I understand that the engine needs to be Area's 1,2 and 3 of focus. But as a stated before, why is it urgent to add things like Duribility and 'fix' the window dressing rankings when things that are already included in the game don't work.

A player looks at where he'll be projected to be picked based on other potential draftees, but beyond that he decides on his own. Where a player projects DOES factor in other players, but the player DOES NOT completely make the decision based on that.

So two players could both be projected as draftable and one might stay while the other goes, even if the one who stays is a better player. So it doesn't make sense to look at a player who decides to go and a player who stays and ask why that happened.

Since players are not real, who is actually looking at the projection to decide to leave early.

That is how I feel about the EE process, we are crippling teams for kids fake pro careers. I do think that EE's have a place in HD. But they need to be fixed. Right now they are one of the most unrealistic things about HD and this time what works for RL would work for HD.
