Oh and I was looking and you can actually use web queries in excel to pull data from websites. I will look into it, I am actually interested cause I wouldn't mind trying my hand at rankings although it probably would suck, haha

hey, ever think about using aggregate team ratings for your rankings?

Colonels is just scared, knowing he is wrong about this ranking formula. That is the reason he is so unwilling to find a way to compile the needed data.

there is a fishy look here of someone who enjoys debating but isnt ready to deliver the goods to back up a lot of strong talk

for example, by himself colonel could go into division one, take the top 25 teams in DI and in less than an hour fill out his template for those 25 teams - then do his ranking and put it out there for folks to compare to the WIS published top 25 for that division in that world

or, some folks appear to have volunteered to do the template for each team in a conference

but, rather than demonstrate what he asserted with vigor and acrimony, the colonel has an alibi that ratings for departing players slip away after the season ends meaning that the work would need to be done during the NT

fishy

I'm not scared about anything, I'm just admitting and realizing that this is hard to do on a grand scale especially with having to delve into each team's page to find the OTR. I've by no means abandoned my formula(s).

Quite frankly, I'll be quite alright if this thing doesn't pan out, I will do this for my team and if you guys continue to not like me because of it then so be it.

Not as easy as you say.

fishy

It was pretty easy doing colonels template for my Oklahoma team - 10 or 15 mins - and once I got good. The score and opponent wins, losses, rpi and sos all appear on the schedule drop down and then one click gets you each opponents roster including OTR....by the end of filling it in, I was going fast. Probably could do 25 teams in say 3 hours at most.

If it took you between 10 -15 minutes for your team, that equates to 4-6 hours...not sure how you came up with 3. I think this is probably the best bet though.

as I mentioned, as I got into the flow it went faster

- its a few hours to do 25 teams - depending on facility in and out of the spreadsheet.....unless someone smarter can just a program to suck the data out into the spreadsheet with a click....which I cant do

That'd be nice...I too am not that intelligent and I don't have the resource(s) to do so either as I only have Microsoft Works Spreadsheet. It would probably be tough to do anyhow because of the way the scores are listed....not listed in 2 separate columns rather together in 1.

Phelan is in day two of the postseason tournies - if 5 people divide up the top 25 teams and each do 5 of them thats modest work

are four others willing each to do the template for 5 teams?

I will do 5 this if colonel promises then to do his method of ranking on the top 25 and publish the results so we can compare to WIS ranking

Do you guys want me to just do regular season games or tournament games as well...the reason I ask is because I'm guessing the WIS "polls" stop at the end of the regular season?

http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Schedule.aspx?tid=#####

Just put the number in where the ##### is and hit enter

Probably could find a program to go in and pull all the info that is needed.

Use this and just copy paste the whole schedule in. Takes 1-3 mins to copy the schedule as all you have to do is copy and paste and it will put it into the table columns by itself. Only thing that has to be done later is retype the scores into the appropriate box and label it home or away game, but that can be done during the following week after you have all the teams data.

If I was going to do this though I am waiting for Phelan so I can mess around my with numbers with my D2 team instead. I am thinking about trying to write up a script even to do it by itself and pull all this data by just entering the range of team #s.
