i believe that is allowed in MLB (after the period of time passes that you cant talk to your own FAs), thus it should be acceptable here in HBD.

I don't like the cash, but I think the sign and trade is fine after the FA period ends.

The cash portion of this could easily lead to another 20 page thread about cash in trades. But if everyone has had all the chance in the world to sign a Type A, and you offer the sign and trade to everyone in public, I don't see how anyone can have a problem with that portion of the deal.

We are near the end of spring training and Don Hinske was still available as a Type A free agent. The previous owner offered to sign him and trade him to a team that wanted his services. The deal that was accepted was Hinske (contract is for 800k) and a future closer (Sta 40, Con 88, Splits 78 and 88, Pitches 89 and 78) for Rico Rivas and $5 million. He says he needs the money because he had to transfer $2 million out of his prospect budget to sign Hinske, and he wanted to be able to put that money back. In the first 5 rounds, he has the 12th pick, 3 comp picks (40,53,68), and his 4th and 5th rounders

This is the key to the cash part. I don't care what he needs or wants. That's not my problem.

signing a FA who's on the open market in order to manipulate draft picks for another owner is collusion.

Uh, he was manipulating himself out of a pick.

I've seen people openly arrange sign-and-trade deals in the resign FA period for prospective Type A FAs and no one has complained.

It's a bit different DURING the FA period.

WHAT???!!! You're working, hokiejoe? You've got to decide what's more important in life--eating, drinking, shelter, security, family, laughter, joy . . . or Dynasty Hardball. If you're currently being seduced by the former you may want to consider whether your values and time have been misplaced. :)
