Vote: Type A draft pick priority Topic

A, C, B. I've seen too many worthless and bloated overall ratings for me to want it to count for anything.

I go with C, if I had a 2nd choice I'd go C, followed closely by C.

I would definitely choose A first.

B

Definitely A...

OVR rating has too many flaws whereas contract value is a good proxy for how valued a player is too the league owners

i don't know what exactly you mean by overall contract, but FWIW i'd say whichever contract is the most valued by our fictional players.

I think this thread is funny. Everywhere you look guys are complaining that they want the game more realistic. Yet in this thread they say another thing entirely. The most realistic option is B and IF WIS changes to another system than it is already using, B should be the obvious choice.

There are all sorts of unsigned Type A at the end of FA. You can get a really good player for nothing but a pick and a couple million dollars. Anything based on salary is nothing short of retarded.

completely agree with this.

IMHO overall rating i worthless, some of the best players you will ever find are mid-high 60 overall rated catchers and closer... if it changes I would want it to be based off of salary of the new contract (per season not total 4 year 42 mil contract is worth more then a 5 year 43 mil contract). This gives a truer idea of the leagues "value" of a player...

That is a good point. Perhaps OVR would be better, although it's tough to compare across positions.

This is really a lot of discussion over nothing. I signed three Type A in Coop and gave up the 81st, 113rd, 147th pick. How much more valuable is the 81st pick than the 113rd and the 147th? Give me a few minutes and I'll answer it(based on Coop's previous drafts).
4/26/2010 2:03 PM
OK, checked the first seven drafts(we've had 13).

81st pick = 52 IP, 152 AB, 2 players still active in minors
113th pick = 0 IP, o AB, 2 players active in minors, 1 just made the big club
147 picks = 0 IP, 0 AB, 1 player active in the minors

An average of 7 innings and 22 AB. Not much difference if you ask me. Certainly not worth worrying over.

Lame argument. MLB doesn't have a hard salary cap either. Give the better pick to the worse team in order to promote competitiveness and league balance. Are you telling me that you guys would rather see someone who spent $1 more on a FA (after all, we can see the contracts, right?) get a pick 32 spaces higher in the draft?

C is the best option because it helps the team that needs it more. The team losing the picks doesn't care, the picks are gone regardless. C is better for the league, and A is such a dumb idea it shouldn't even be considered. Must be Yankee fans that think they should get better draft picks for signing overpriced FA...

todd, the draft order itself serves the purpose that you describe. there's no need to add an unrealistic layer on top of that to help them even more. it makes no more sense than giving them 2 free wins to start the season.

7 seasons. 52 IP, 152 AB.

Why change something that produces those numbers? It's not worth the bother.
