This is also why tanking sucks. This seems way to stressful to me, choosing exactly which guy you want. I'd much rather just throw a bunch of guys in a clump and let the people picking in front of me sort out which one I happen to get.

Obviously it depends on current ratings and the accuracy of the projected, but having a 35-40 HR SS is a very good thing. I'd rather have him than the other 2 hitters. Good hitters at a premium defensive position are hard to fin. The contact rating means he will strike ouy 100 times a year, but if he hits .270/.345/.550, who cares?

I still like the 2nd best SP a little better than any of the hitters you've shown us, but I like the SS better than the other hitters as well if he truly projects to D-recs.

I agree. The pitcher with Mom as an agent won't sign. But, the other SP looks like he'd be very good - #2 type SP on a good team. Hard to pass that up as well.

For me, it would depend on the Defensive ratings of the SS. If he was going to be an above average defensive guy, I'd grab him. if he's more likely to play 3b, then I'd lean toward the pitcher.

If you're not in love with any of your options, and you don't want to draft Mom SP and punt until next year, then you may end up dealing the guy you draft this year during next offseason to an owner who does love him for a player you are in love with. From that perspective, you'll likely get very good trade value from an 80+ projected SP with good peripherals.

The SS, I was off by one one the power projection, he projects at 100. I've come around on him, after looking at all the bats more closely, I've determined he's the best fit.

I wish he'd have a better contact rating, but as jptrainwreck points out, if he hits .270 with a .550 slg, I can work with that.

He could play SS, but he'll have to reach his potential defensive ratings to do that. If he falls a bit short on the ratings, he'll probably be a 3B.

Thanks everyone, I've learned a bunch doing this and I think I know what I need to do to improve my drafts.

This one is easy. Pick pitcher A and pray he signs. If he does, you're looking at perennial cy young candidate. If he doesn't, you'll get the pick next year and likely have a more clear cut choice.

in case anyone is interested, I took this guy, who was player #1: Derrik McPherson

He actually projects out a little better than I thought. My HS scouts rated his D potential as 79-74, and you can see that the advanced scouts have him at 82-81

Also projects to having just a touch more power with a better eye and better splits against RH, although just a tad lower splits against LH.

I have more $ invested in my advance scouting than the HS scouts, so I feel really good about him.

Pitcher A slid to #5 overall and is demanding $8M.

Pitcher B went #9 and has signed.

Player B slid all the way to #16 and is being called the steal of the draft by some. His projections stayed about the same as before (he's signed) but I noticed his owner has switched him to 1B already.

The first pick was a pitcher, who I didn't get scouted. He's not signed as of yet.
