When he pitches against LH batters, his split is good, his control is below and his pitches are below, he will not get crushed as bad.

If he has to be used, it should be in situations where his skillset allows for the biggest chance of success. That was my point, by design.

This is basically an explanation of why you were wrong about his righty split. It's not WHY he's terrible, it's just not something that helps him that much. Why he is terrible is because he's below average in control (slightly), and pitches (significantly).

Although I guess in your defense your original statement wasn't that his RH split was explicitly the problem. Just that it's averageness coupled with his problems elsewhere was going to make him unusable against RHers. And that might be an accurate statement, although I'm sure I could pull up guys in my league with worse ratings and way more reasonable numbers still.

Bottom line, very good to know that unless a guy has an 80 pitch he's going to post a 10 ERA for me. Very, very good to know.

It's not that as much as 70 is acceptable as a 2nd pitch not a first. Ideally, from a pitcher with his control/splits, I'd like at least a 80/70 pitch combo not a 70/63.

That's not entirely true. Ricardo Abreu is a guy with pretty much the same pitches, but better splits and control. His career line against is .247/.312/.401. His ERA is 4.74, but he is the king of small sample sizes with 33 DUR and 9 STA. He only can throw 25 Innings a year, so when a guy scores because he a guy on base and couldn't finish an innning, it kills his ERA.

Just took a pug league in honor of baseball season starting again. Should be fun.

I nominate Felipe Ramos. He has stellar ratings except for the 58 batting eye... but would that really have such an affect on his batting totals? Seem awfully weak..

.271 BA, .806 OPS...I fail to see what the problem with Felipe is? Given his ratings, which it should be noted are NOT stellar, he's an average player. I'd say a career .806 OPS is even a little above average for him.
