Yep, 18 billion to Pakistan since 2002.  But here is the interesting thing about foreign aid.  The majority of it gets paid to US companies to deliver support to said country.  Very little of that aid gets spent by Pakistan paid to Pakistani companies and people.  So really much of this money comes right back to America anyways.  Ofcourse much of it in the form of CEOs pay and bonuses and profit.  A small amount of the total actually goes to regular Americans working for the defense contractors and construction firms etc...

General Electric made a $5.1B profit in 2010 (some sources say $12B or even $14B, but let's use the smallest figure I found).  

GE paid nothing in taxes in 2010; in fact GE, got a $3.2B credit.

Unshackled as they are, GE must have created a lot of jobs, right?

Er, not quite.  Between 2007 and 2010 they let 32,000 employees go worldwide (including 22,000 Americans).

Is the solution a bigger tax credit?

Exactly Swampy, this is exactly the kind of crap that you can expect from companies that dont have any regulations put on them.

I bet you are going to come up with some bull$hit excuse for GE because you are a puppet for the elite.  I dont know why, you are probably not much different from me sociio-economically speaking that is.  Unless infact you are the CEO for GE, then I am sure you have some sort of well practiced bull$hit that you spew whenever anybody asks you about not paying tax, insane profits, and at the same time laying off or firing 32000 people.

Come on Swampy, defend GE.

Come on MikeT, you are going to defend GE here?  I always thought you were pro-American, not just pro-big-business.

So you are saying that if they can get away with it then they should?  What if you worked for GE and were one of the 22000 Americans that got laid off by them?  What would you say then?

I don't think companies should employ workers that they don't need.    If they didn't need those 32,000 people, they didn't need them.

Essentially, it sounds to me, that many of you want to stop technology.  You want to pick up the phone and ask the operator to dial "Jimmy in Corncobb county" for you.  Technology eliminates jobs.   So does declining profits. 

If you want to do something about it, don't go use automated anything.

No excuses for GE - they did the right thing.

Until America realizes that a GLOBAL labor market exists we will continue to lose domestic jobs to acquire highly skilled and less expensive foreign employment.


As far as taxes go..... Fair Tax = No Loopholes, No Lobbyists. Incentivises Foreign Investment in the US.

so true!!!

I hear people all the time saying that eliminating the CEO of BofA's salary would pay for the 30,000 jobs they are cutting..... what these idiots don't realize is that these jobs being cut are from 'redundant' departments from past mergers/etc and unprofitable branch closures. Why the heck would BofA pay to keep redundancies and to keep unprofitable branches afloat? Thats a losing business plan.
