It would have to be divisible by 4.   16, 20, 24, 28.      Worlds that have 29 or 19 or whatever odd number you have, would have to get to one of these numbers.   Buy someone out, recruit someone in.

I won't do scheduling for all of them(trust me, it can be done) but here you go:

16 - 2 divisions of 4 in two leagues
30 against division(90)
15 against opp division in league(60)
3 against division in other league(12)

That took me two minutes.

3 playoff teams in each league.  Best record gets bye, division winner and WC play 7.

Easy peasy.

I don't think that WIS would be interested in creating too much variation in world sizes.

I can see two (16 and 32) or three (16, 24 and 32) different models.

32 would be exactly how it is now, same structure and schedules.

24 would be like MLB from 1969-1976, at least in league and division structure.  Two leagues, two divisions of 6 in each league.  Two division winners, 2 wildcards in each league.  Dump the interleague play.  Schedule is you play 18 games against your division mates (5 x 18 = 90 games), and 12 games against each team in the other division (6 x 12 = 72) for a total of 162 games.

16 would be two leagues, two divisions of 4 in each league.  Two division winner and 1 wildcard in each league.  Best record gets a bye.  the other division winner and the WC play a best of 5.  Also dump the interleague play.  Schedule is 30 games against your division mates (3 x 30 = 90) and 18 games against each team in the other division (4 x 18 = 72).

The thing I like about the smaller worlds, especially the 16 team world, is that you get real rivalries with your division mates because you're playing them all the time.

I'm not sure they're interested in creating any variation in world sizes.   I was just floating the idea because I think it resolves a lot of the current, and potentially, future problems.

I have no doubt that some people have given up WifS because their favorite world sat for 3 months.   You have to keep those people around.   Reducing world size would do that.    WifS needs to get back to where demand/supply are somewhat in sync.    For all I know, 16 team worlds would become all the rage.

Alright tufft.  It's now clear that you're not only an idiot, but a jerk as well.  I wasn't mentioning my degree for a pat on the back.  I don't need that.  My degree is worth far more than your two-bit opinion of it.  Moving on.

To this point of yours: "Let me try again -- The are not enough current GMs."

There aren't enough current GMs to fill the current leagues, that is correct... However, if you add sim teams to the leagues, the price will inevitably drop as the competition becomes weaker, and while the leagues may become more populated, it will become another cheaper, less competitive, and less interesting sim game, like GD, HD, or SD. Your proposition would take away from HBD the one thing that makes it so much better than the other sim games on this site: the competition and the dedication of current GMs.

The idea that they would even consider ruining their best game with sim teams is preposterous. Rather, it's a matter of simple supply and demand. Currently, supply of teams is greater than demand for them. Thus, they should merge (or archive) leagues that are too empty, until supply meets demand. Then, if there becomes an excess demand, create a new league.

MikeT23, varying league sizes could work, but with a proven 32 team model, I don't think it's necessary. And it's certainly simpler to leave it at 32. Sadly for GMs in failing leagues, the answer is probably to merge and/or to find a new league as your league is archived.

And tufft, as for your argument about using a more advanced sim technology that doesn't currently exist: it doesn't currently exist.  Unless you have the technology or you've heard any indication that it's in the works, it's useless, unproductive speculation.  The point of these threads is to come up with small tweaks to make the game better, not huge tweaks that would completely change the composition of the game.  You're talking about a different game here, not HBD.

Unfortunately, some owners are dead set against merging and will sit in unfilled worlds for months on end.     Your answer of merge/find new league doesn't work as it's always been an option.

Smaller worlds might be a complete disaster.    But, mostly, we're just throwing **** against the wall to see what sticks.

I'll be interested in seeing what WIS decides to do, if anything.  It is sad to see several leagues sitting and waiting, however.

They should at least consider customized world sizes.   As tec said, maybe 5 is too many.  Maybe 16, 24, 32 is enough.   But I don't think that's going to solve the immediate problem.

FWIW, I think they should allow worlds to downsize several times if necessary.   But, if they're at 16 and still can't fill, it needs to be zapped after a set time period.   I fully recognize that's begging for aliases from existing owners but that's a speedbump in the road.

cshake93 -- You're an angry young man. I was one of those once.  Trust me, your life will get massively better if you decide to let go of that.  Every disagreement is not a personal attack.  In almost every real-life situation that matters, the first person who gets angry loses or has put themselves at a big disadvantage.

Referring to your "I'm an economics student" post.

The structure of the first 3 paragraphs was -

Premise 1,
Premise 2,
Conclusion Based on Premise 1 and 2

I replied with reasons both Premises are incorrect.  At least why I think they are incorrect. Support with reasons I think that.

And then asked you if that information might change your Conclusion.

And your reply to that reasonable question is I'm an idiot and a jerk.

Mike on with your bad self!

PS - I should have checked this earlier. You're pretty new to HBD.  I remember what that was like, too. Enjoy this period. I did. If you stick around a few years, you may agree with more of my posts. The game is not as hard as you think it is today.  It's not chess.  You can't perfect it and win the WS every season. There's a substantial random element.  I think you'll find in most worlds being good enough to make the playoffs won't tax your greatest self.

Time has a way of changing opinions on a lot of things.  You can either go Mike's path.  Work hard and earn you way into one of the few solid worlds, and then mock and/or lack empathy for those who are not Mike.  All you stick with your world(s) long-term, as I have. Maybe then you'll read Mike's posts a little differently.

tufft, I'm a level headed guy. I don't take everything as a personal attack.  However, you are impossible to reason with (ask anybody else is any of these posts), and when I said that, you took it as a personal attack.  What made you a jerk was the condescending CONGRATULATIONS!!! about my degree.  And what makes you wrong in all of your posts is that you say "why you think" somebody's premise is wrong, but treat it as fact.  That is why it is pointless to try to reason with you.  I haven't taken anything as an attack, nor am I an angry young man, nor does my limited experience in HBD make me any less rational than you.

P.S.  I'm aware of all of the things you just noted. I don't expect to win every season, nor would I want to.  I like a challenge.  And unless you know who I am, or what I've done, or anything about me, I find it absolutely ridiculous for you to suggest that I will someday gain the wealth of knowledge you claim to possess, and that I don't already possess quite a bit of it myself.  I don't say this to brag, but I will say that I just graduated from one of the best universities in the world, and I am far more intelligent than you might ever acknowledge.  You don't have to be 50 years old to be smart.  You are quite condescending, my friend.

cs -- Congratulations meant congratulations.

That you took it any other way says something about you.

Notice that you put it all all caps and followed by a lot of exclamation points when you quoted it back to me?

Did I post it that way?

Why do you think you quoted it back to me that way?

I'm pretty sure he read the real time FA bidding thread and decided, correctly, that you're a bit of a tool.
