A few prospective owners have contacted me saying they would sign up if it gets down to one or two spots to fill. If those that are interested would go ahead and join we would be at one or two spots to fill.

The private forum is up and I'll grant access to anyone interested in getting more info about the league.

I'll play! Thanks for the invite.

I want the Cleveland franchise (ha, I'm sure I'll be the only taker!)

Question: Are the starting years 79-80 and 99-00, or 78-79/ 98-99??

79-80 & 99-00... Figured it out. (Bird & Magic rookie years)

I would like to try and fill the league this week. In that regard, I am willing to take a 2nd team if needed. Is anyone else interested in a 2nd team?

I'm in. I have a credit available and can join today. I didn't read through the whole thread to see what's available, so here's my choices in order:

Detroit
Milwaukee
Indiana
Vancouver

I like the set up - though in drafts after the first one I would support us being allowed to declare the contract length (of 3 years or less). Sometimes (esp toward the end of drafts) you pick up players that may only have 1 or 2 decent years. I don't see why we would be required to sign them for 3 years.

Either way, count me in.

Welcome! The contract situation can be evaluated in the future. There are some opportunities that are built in now to provide roster flexibility. I'll give you access to the league forum. Please check out the "Read Me" threads and also let me know if you have a preference for your franchise city.

dskantor brings-up one of the things that has held me back. Expanding on that a bit, what happens if I draft a 1 or 2-year player? I do get to draft another to replace him after the 1 or 2 years, correct? So why then lock the contracts at 3 years for all draftees and force owners to have garbage on their team?

I would like to be able to address your concern but I'm not sure how you define "garbage". If you mean a player who has only one or two serviceable years then I would grant that they do exist. That's why there is one chance every off-season to outright release a player. And an additional chance after the draft to Add / Drop and replace a player(s). The same would hold true for a player at the end of a career with declining stats. And there is an I/R list as well.

We have all had to draft a player we did not want in a single season prog. But in this double era prog there are 622 players in the first draft and only 288 will be drafted. I haven't taken a head count for all the subsequent drafts but I am wagering the numbers will be similar. I think there will be plenty of chances to avoid and / or rid yourself of a player you do not want.

The point of the three year contract is to have roughly one third of every team on a 3 year deal, one third on a 2 year deal and one third on expiring contracts going back into the draft pool. If my vision for how this should work is wrong then I will absolutely be willing to change. But, to the best of my knowledge this particular approach has not been tried before. I think it will work and add new elements of strategy to the mix and I think it's worth a try and evaluation to determine if it works or needs tweaking.

I also think you are too good of an owner to draft "garbage".

I'm sorry for not being clear. I am talking about requiring a player with 1 or 2 "usable" seasons to have a 3 year contract. That 3rd season, where he will never see a minute of action (unless the owner is tanking), is what I was referring to as garbage. The players you address should never be in the League.
The add/drop will allow each owner to address this once, and I guess there aren't really more frequent instances. Should have given it some deeper thought instead of just the surface stuff.
WTH, count me in.
