In case you are interested, I am in a super weird John Maus phase tonight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfFCb1y0WfA
But please @ me if you want to talk about MF Doom from above. My lord and savior.
Man...I loved DOOM so so much. He’s frustrating because he does some incredible things with multi syllabic rhymes but then sometimes he forces weird phrases for the sake of rhyme and sometimes he writes with too many syllables for the meter and it’s sloppy, just because he wanted more rhyming syllables. However in the end it’s worth it because he’s thought of some absolutely amazing rhymes throughout the years. He is a decent producer and has a good ear for picking beats, working with Madlib (my fav producer), Danger Mouse, and the guys who did Viktor Vaughn are all great producers.
Favorite DOOM album? (I gotta go with Madvillain)
Definitely Viktor Vaughn is Vaudeville Villain.
Even his “instrumental” albums are good.
His social anxiety for live shows and his tendency to do stuff just to show he can both can get frustrating. He also writes most of his guests’ lyrics too because he is a control freak (unless it is a legend like Raekwon or Ghostface). All that being said I adore the man.
We can probably have a whole MC discussion in the pop culture thread. My daughter who is about to turn three is currently really into Rakim.
