The fear of future dead money is what has kept me from signing any guys to max deals. However, I have seen so many max deal players get traded, that maybe I shouldn't be so afraid.

Then again, I suck at trading, so.....

Everything you have just mentioned is my fear.

I just had a fielding instructor sign with someone else for a lower offer than I had open -- what gives?

You needed to add the Free Gloves option.

One of two possible options.

A) Did they resign with their original team?

B) Did you have multiple offers out on multiple fielding instructors and sign another one instead?

With B, the coach hiring is super super flawed. I don't remember how it works but if you have two coaches that you have offers in on and you are winning on both of them your team will sign the one that you have offered less money too. I'm also not sure if you are in a bidding war with one and if you aren't with the other one if you will sign the one that accepts the offer first. Like I said, super flawed.

Agreed. I'm not sure of the internal logic, but if you have more than one offer out, it's entirely up to the game which one signs first. I try not to be in the position of "Aw, I actually wanted the other guy more."

Thx for responses. I did not win a different coach on that cycle. But I learned something new today from support: "In general, coaches will take the highest offer, but their loyalty rating gives the previous team an edge if offers are close." It was last year's team that won. He had a 75 loyalty rating. My offer was 5% higher.

I did not realize that. So loyalty rating matters more than I thought.

I almost inevitably get the #2 guy. I'll be in the lead for two guys and that #2 will sign first seemingly every single time.

If I really want one coach more than another, I only offer to that one. I have found it keeps me from getting someone inferior since you don't have control as was mentioned if you offer to multiple coaches.

Yeah, by the time they start signing I'm usually zeroed in on the one I know I want/I'll get, so I drop the others. Unless I really don't care which is the first to sign, then I'll leave 'em up.

How does everyone else try to balance their 25 man roster between hitters and pitchers? I just had my first season of 15 hitters / 10 pitchers and somehow it didn't blow up in my face.

AL I go 13 hitters/12 pitchers
NL I go 12 hitters/13 pitchers

Depends on the ratio of starters to relief pitchers and platoons on offense. More often than not, I am at 14 hitters/11 pitchers or 13 hitters/12 pitchers.

However, my Wichita team in Glavine300 has had 14 pitchers/11 hitters lately due to having great relief pitching and little starting pitching talent.

14 hitters/11 pitchers. Keeps the position players well rested and I platoon a ton, I can't run more than one 50 IP reliever at that ratio, and I need 2-3 multi-inning relievers.
