Game 65: Ricky Gutierrez, Ruben Sierra, and Russ Davis all hit a home run and a double as the Spectres beat the Senators 9-1 in the nation's capital. Joe Kennedy throws six scoreless innings and improves to 3-1.

Game 66: Greg Vaughn and Mark McGwire, each with one home run entering the game, combine for three longballs and the Senators hold off the Spectres 8-7, scoring two important insurance runs in the ninth. Montreal's rally falls short; Jason Dorgan's bases-loaded single brings Montreal within a run but Ramon Hernandez strikes out to end the game, stranding runners at the corners.

A trip to St. Louis (37-29) is next.

Game 67: Omar Daal gets shelled and the Blue Storm gets five solid innings from their bullpen to beat the Spectres 11-4 in the series opener. Richie Sexson hits his 18th home run for St. Louis.

Game 68: Ricky Gutierrez homers and Geoff Jenkins has three hits as the Spectres even the series with a 5-3 win. Eddie Guardado pitches the ninth for the save, the team's first since Nen was traded.

Game 69: Bret Boone and Edgardo Alfonzo drive in four runs each and Jim Brower gets his second win of the season despite allowing six runs in five innings; the Spectres get 19 hits in a 10-6 win over the Blue Storm.

Montreal will host Houston next.

Game 70: Brian Tolberg, 1-7 entering the game, pitches five 2-hit innings against the Spectres, which is far more than the Spectres manage off the Lone Star bullpen, which contributes four hitless innings as Houston shuts us out, 4-0. Kelvim Escobar falls to 1-7.

Game 71: Ken Griffey Jr. wakes up from a season-long slumber, hitting a double and two home runs, driving in six as the Spectres humble Houston, 12-5.

Game 72: Chuck Finley gets his first win of the season, going 5.2 innings and some help from Carlos Delgado and Edgardo Alfonzo, both of whom hit home runs to lead the Spectres to a 6-2 win.

It's off to Wrigley for the Spectres to face the Bootleggers.
8/24/2009 6:59 AM
Game 73: The Bootleggers get home runs from Chipper Jones and Orlando Cabrera while the Spectres are mostly helpless against Rick Helling (who sports a nifty 8.88 ERA) and Chicago wins the opener, 4-3.

Game 74: Dave Burba gets only one out, allowing five hits before being summarily removed from the game.. spotted to a 4-0 lead, the Bootleggers break even with Montreal from there and win 11-7.

Game 75: Ruben Sierra has four hits and three RBI as the Spectres outslug the Bootleggers 12-10 in a classic Wrigley Field game, barely avoiding a sweep.

Montreal heads back home to host Los Angeles.

Game 76: Kelvim Escobar pitches six scoreless innings, then gives up a grand slam to the fourth batter he faces in the seventh. With that, the Spectres' hopes die, and they drop the opener 6-2 to the Looters.

Game 77: LA outslugs the Spectres, 8-6 despite four hits by Ed Sprague. Joe Kennedy falls to 3-2.

Game 78: Chuck Finley allows four runs, retiring one batter, before leaving, sparking a run on relievers as Montreal uses nine pitchers to finish the game. In the end the strain is too much and the Looters win in 11, 11-8.

The Spectres will finish the first half at San Diego, currently leading the West at 46-32.

Game 79: For the first time since the Nen trade, Montreal blows a save, actually giving up a 5-0 lead, the final two coming in the bottom of the ninth off Bob Wickman. The complete lack of offense from the third inning on doesn't help. With a win by Pittsburgh and another loss by New York, there is now a three-way tie in the NL East with three teams at 35-44.

Game 80: Daryl Kile throws eight shutout innings and the Conquistadors shut out the Spectres 7-0, allowing Pittsburgh to take sole control of the division.

Game 81: Bret Boone hits a three-run home run and an RBI single to finish the first half with 13 homers and 79 RBI; the Spectres hold off a rally by San Diego to salvage an 8-7 win out of the series. Eddie Guardado extinguishes an 8th inning rally and pitches a scoreless ninth for his second save.

The second half will start at home against Milwaukee.

Boone is the only Spectre to make the All Star team.

Game 82: This one appeared to be over early as Milwaukee took a 9-3 lead, but a five-run Spectre seventh made it a one-run game and raised hope. The Montreal bullpen extinguished that hope as the Krauts answered with a three-run eighth and a five-run ninth, winning 17-10 to start the second half.

Game 83: Carlos Beltran is 6-6 and his Milwaukee teammates collect another 14 hits as the Krauts destroy Montreal, 13-6.

Game 84: Milwaukee scores four early, then goes crazy late, scoring 11 times in the eighth inning to score a 15-3 win over the Krauts and avoid a sweep. Geoff Jenkins hits a grand slam in the eighth and Ed Sprague follows up later with his first homer of the season, a two-run shot.

Interleague sets against St. Paul, New York, and Chicago are next... all are in last place in their division.
8/28/2009 6:45 AM
Game 85: Geoff Jenkins and Edgardo Alfonzo hit home runs to help the Spectres beat visiting St. Paul, 6-3. Omar Daal goes six innings and improves to 5-7 with the victory.

Game 86: Dave Burba gets roughed up while Scott Elarton shuts down the Spectres; St. Paul gets a split with a 6-2 win.

Game 87: Al Leiter is the latest pitcher to stymie the Spectres as the Brawnx Bombers win 6-1 at Yankee Stadium.

Game 88: Montreal finally finds some offense but not before New York puts up nine runs in the fourth. Kelvim Escobar falls to 1-10 as New York wins 12-8.

Game 89: Ricky Gutierrez and Josh Paul have four hits each, and Carlos Delgado adds three more, but the rest of the lineup manages only three between them and the Spectres lose to the White Sox, 6-4.

Game 90: Montreal's tour of last place AL teams ends poorly, as the White Sox score one run in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to take a 6-5 victory. Montreal finishes 1-5 in this interleague stretch and falls two games out of the division lead.

The Spectres head to Cincinnati to face the Stingers.
