Trump: Worst President Ever? Topic

This is written by a different BI columnist arguing for Romney's election in 2012:

There's a zero percent chance that a first-term President, with few obvious convictions other than wanting to be President, does anything that would slow GDP (and that includes cut government spending), when his first goal from the day he takes the Oath Of Office would be to get re-elected in 2016.

wasn't Obama the POTUS for 2 terms?

This is pretty good too: Reagan used massive government spending to end recession

Reagan used the funds to bankrupt the Soviet union too. I am not sure what raising our debt by $9tr did. Again let's say we need $4trn to get out of the recession what about the other $5trn? There was never a plan implemented to cure this. Maybe if he spent more time on lowering our debt vs. his healthcare plan it would have been solved somewhat?

Anyone that argues against debt going up during Obama's term doesn't know what they are talking about. We were in a recession driven by lack of demand. Debt going up was the only reasonable option.
So, what you're saying is "Anything good that happened was because of O'Bumble", but "Anything bad that happened was out of his control". This is the kind of BS, that comes from both sides, that makes so, so many people hate politics and grave an "outsider" to vote for.
I agree that this kind of BS causes many to hate politics, but it would take a lot more than this to get me to ever cast a vote for Donald Trump.
Your alternative was HRC, who just said that Comey cost her the election because after he reopened the investigation she said "husbands and boyfriends told their significant others...see she is going to jail don't bother voting for her"....basically she is saying women don't have a mind of their own and listen to the men in their lives to tell them what to do.

Hilarious. If she wants someone to blame she should look in the mirror.
Nobody, least of all me, said HRC was a good, or even decent candidate.

Bad candidate but she would have been a better president than trump.

And an actual example: Brazil

They were in a recession in 2015 and decided that huge spending cuts to shrink the deficit were the solution. Unemployment went from 9% to 13% over the next year.
How is Brazil doing now? I'm not worried about a one year hit. I would expect that.

Have you heard about the lost decade or the lost 10 in Japan? In '91 they had a financial meltdown much like we did in 2008. They tried to spend their way out of it. It's now been pretty much the lost 3 decades.... They still haven't recovered.

Countries like Iceland let their banks fail during the 2008 crisis's and they bounced back faster than any other nation.

There's something to be said about hitting rock bottom and then rebounding quickly up over the slow economic malaise of having government spend money to stave off depression.

Btw - Reagan cut taxes in 81 and 86.

Reagan inherited a military that had been neglected since Vietnam. Aging equipment, poor retention due to military vs private sector pay. He had to retool, plus deal with the Soviet threat.

Our financial house is out of order. So much spending is bloated. Outdated or inefficient programs need to be fixed or eliminated. Other programs need some funds redirected. I think this will be one area Trump makes gains. If the economy can get to 3-4% growth, there will be enough revenue to do infrastructure, begin to pay down the debt, and do so without heavy spending cuts overall. Let's see how it goes. Perhaps Trump's populist approach gives Democrats enough wins to get them off his back. I am not against going down the middle of the road, financially speaking. Socially we are making a bit of a right turn. As Obama said, elections have consequences..Trump putting congressional Republicans on their heels might be the tonic required to get things done.

I just looked and Brazil and it's 9th largest economy in the world seems to be doing just fine. In fact they just added a 20% tariff to ethanol imports.

This is how threads get ruined. Everyone is entitled to be dumber than you are. You have a choice: You can let the 'dissidents' drive you crazy, or you can enjoy them for who they are.
