I dont know what the #1 factor is, for the reasons you stated. I think it is a combination of RPI, Wins (quality wins), SOS, Last 10 games, Wins vs Top 50 RPI and probably more. I dont think one is that much more important than the other.

Not considered anymore despite what ESPN tells you; was taken out a couple of years ago.

I agree with you and Dalter (I think) that WIS doesnt really account for quality wins enough; but only as relative to two teams with comparable resumes...If a team has a 15-12 record and a SOS of 10 I dont think 4 quality wins (Wins v. teams with sub 100 RPI) would get them into the tournament. Look at Notre Dame in Phelan...assuming they dont win another game (CT)...they are 12-14 with a 47 RPI and 2 SOS. Im assuming you'd think they should get in? I think they shouldn't even be considered.

They can't be considered...have to be at least .500.

Obviously, there is a rule in place that teams have to be at least .500 to get consideration. Once they meet that requirement, they should and will be considered.

Hypothetical Question: What if a team is 15-15 with an RPI and SOS of 20. Do you think they should get consideration?

Yeah but if they played an easier schedule they would easily win 25 games, isnt that your standard? ;)

What if they win 3 games in the CT and finish at 15-14 with a 37ish RPI and 1 SOS? Do they get in?

Well, the RPI would get them "considered" because it passes the initial litmus test; but the instant their .500 record is revealed, they would be turned away. The only example I can think of in the last 20 years of a team with a borderline record getting in is that Arizona team and Im pretty sure they had more than 15 wins...or did they win the Pac10...I dont recall off hand.

The .500 rule is not mine. If they win 3 games and finish at 15-14, then yes, I think they should get considered. I havent looked at their "quality wins" but I would think they have a few. Would they definitely get a spot? I dont know. I would probably take them over a 22-7 team with a 50ish RPI and a 100+ SOS. All dependent on quality wins though.

I still don't see how any of you say that wins don't count enough when a 9 win team made the PI...simply unbelievable.

I'm not talking about the PIT. I think the selection criteria for the two is completely separate.

in the PI:
they beat a 17-win (79 RPI) team on the road
they almost beat a 22-win (86 RPI) team on the road

it seems to me that whatever the ranking system did to come to the conclusion, it did a good job.
