Grant, that 70 FTA game had 35-40 FTA on intentional fouls.  Not an engine issue at all.  Coach started intentionally fouling with 6 or 7 minutes left.
Yeah Reinsel, that's my bad.

In a normal tempo v slow tempo game, York commits 31 fouls, fouls out 4 players, and has a PF playing PG.  I understand that the press is causing more fouls in the new engine, but this is not a realistic outcome in a game between roughly equal teams.  (Or arguably between any teams.)

Question: Settings for foul agressiveness.

6/18/2010 11:38 PM
I don't see why that isn't realistic rogue?  York is freakin exhausted due to what I can only assume is a dumb depth chart, and their B level IQ pressing perimeter players commit a lot of fouls against 2 experienced, talented senior guards on the other side?

Can we reserve this for posts w. links to potential issues as seble requested? It's really starting to get hijacked ...

Seble, I sent posed this question to daalter in a site mail, and now just saw the same issue in a Forum Post (Double Teaming in the New Engine) and here's my response to it. Could you check this out and see what's up.

Question Posted: Scince matchups seem to be a factor in the new engine, does double teams work any better when playing man to man?

My Answer: Not from what I've seen. Here's a site mail I sent to one of the Veteran Coaches about this same issue. I had a game the other night where I double teamed a guy the whole game and he still went off on me.

I have another question for you. If you look at my game last night, please tell me which view point is correct from my coaches corner today between me and MJP. If MJP is correct, that's a bunch of crap that needs to be pointed out to Seble and fixed.

The double team is pretty much the useless aspect of HD Court, unfortunately it does just about nothing to stop a star player.

That's a total bunch of Crap!! There ain't no frickin way Dinardo goes 7-11 with 22 points, when he has a double team on him the whole game.

York averaging 25 personal fouls per game.  Number of teams in DI, DII, and DIII that averaged 25 personal fouls per game last season:   zero.

That's right -- a 62-pt swing.Absurd.http://www.whatifsports.com/x.asp?r=343081&u=/hd/GameResults/BoxScore.aspx?gid=5812877http://www.whatifsports.com/x.asp?r=343081&u=/hd/GameResults/BoxScore.aspx?gid=5840604 In that second game you have one team going 2-23 from 3p vs. a fcp and the other going 16-32 from 3p against a +1 m2m. Right now this engine lacks any semblance of consistency, and that is a scary thing.

in the game where UNC wins (which i would expect to be the more abnormal game, in the first half, all 3 of miami florida's starting guards are in foul trouble. 2 have 2 fouls, one has 3. 2 minutes into the second half, one of them picks up #3. 4 minutes later, and the third picks up #3. the only reason foul trouble wasn't worse is because these guys were getting reduced minutes because of their foul trouble.

i wonder how many of the other extreme swings involve serious foul trouble. it is one of the most volatile aspects of the game in general, and maybe it is a little out of proportion in the new engine. these guards are extremely talented - a/a/a- press iqs, avg 89 ath, 97 spd, 92 def.

i see fairly similar issues on my own team, which is easily the fastest d2 team in my world. my 100spd, 80 ath, 42 def, a+ press iq guard seems like he can't stay out of foul trouble against other talented (albeit much slower) teams. the overall foul averages for these players do not seem out of whack, but a couple unlucky fouls in a row and it can totally cripple these teams. maybe an adjustment is needed, which causes a player 1 foul away from fairly serious foul trouble or more to play a little bit worse defense and to reduce the chance of fouling decently, like you might expect from a team playing very tough defense in real life?

the ath and speed of the guards of miami is much better than that of UNC. i would think that would stop serious fouling from the guards, but as with my team in similar situations, i don't see it. even against drastically slower/less athletic teams possibly starting 3 bigs vs starting 3 guards. and its not like it is poor defense ratings in play, or poor iq - these are top notch defensive players across the board.
I seemed to be fouling alot against a less athletic team

If I lose here, I'd expect it to be b/c the other team gets hot from 3, or maybe I have a few more turnovers than normal.... not b/c I'm getting beat by less quick/ less athletic players.

Seriously...  5 points in the second half against an equal team.  2 for 22 in the 2nd half and 0 for 13 behind the arch for the game.  This is absurd.

Was this box score for the 7th grade team?

Number of teams in D1, D2, D3 trying to play a full court press with 9 players = 0

Check out your last pressing opponent Frostberg State.  They are averaging 17.8 fpg and go 12 deep

My team is also averaging over 30 fouls per game and having players consistently foul out.  But it seems to be my upper classmen with high IQ's just as much as my lower classmen.  I had one guy foul out in 6 minutes of play.

I tried running a normal tempo, changing my usual -1 positioning to a 0... same results.  My team turns the ball over 27 times a game (3 of my 4 best ball handlers turn it over the most), commits 30 fouls a game(my best defender fouls the most) and opponents put up 100 on me every game.

1.  Many teams DO run full court press with 9 players (and I was running it with 10 prior to an injury 2 games ago).  Very, very few teams (at least at the DI level, I don't know enough about the others) give substantial playing time to 9 players, much less 10.
2.  While the number of players may affect the number of players who foul out, it should not affect the number of fouls.
3.  I have also found (granted in a limited sample size) that ST, IQ, ATH, and SPD (not sure about D) seem to have no impact on number of fouls.
4.  If WIS is going to make a defense obsolete, it should at least provide the option for coaches to change their D without a penalty.  (Or warn us a few seasons in advance that a defense will become obsolete.)

35 - 1 national champion Lane in Phelan would care to argue against calling the Press obsolete.
