The Padres were even lower and someone took them. There are plenty more Mets fans then there are Padres fans, at least I hope. Even if only 1 out of 3 New York baseball fans root for the Mets, they would still outnumber Padres fans by a lot, so I don't get why the Mets haven't been claimed yet.

Steve9955 already does have 2 NL teams, so I don't think the commish would have a problem with it.

Normally owners with 2 teams have their teams placed in different leagues ...

Yes but Yanks vs. NL and Boston is the format. Two owners have 2 NL teams each. As long are each owner has his teams in different divisions, I don't care.
