Fun fact of the day: The best bargin so far has been the Cincinnati Reds IF for $5million. The total WIS Salary of all the players in all their seasons is $101,288,961 so that's $20.26 WiS dollars for every dollar spent on the winning bid. Now you know.

I dunno, there's not a lot of value in that $100 million for the Reds unit. The only long term value is Sean Casey, a solid 1B but not even All-Star material. They have a nice 2000, but I wouldn't pay more than $10 million for the unit.

Yeah, the Park Place fans are screaming at ownership for pocketing television revenue instead of spending it on the roster.

Since it came up, part of the appeal of the Cleveland OF unit was the somewhat cheap availability of DH Frank Thomas. I'm risking a real hole at catcher, but with the Big Hurt on board I can slid Mo Vaughn into the OF gap and set up a fearsome heart of the order with Thomas, Ramirez, and Glaus.

yeah leo that manny/big hurt/glaus/vaughn lineup is gonna put the hurt on some pitchers, with lofton setting the table too...if you can get any production from the 6-8 spots you should score the most runs in the league

I was just wondering about some of the people in our league that has yet to make a move.  I know it might be strategy, but maybe some of these people went AWOL as well.  I would hate to see the whole draft go though and then realize a person wasn't here the entire time.  So maybe if we haven't heard from you, give us a shout out?

Yes.  All but one wrote me back, and I think the person who didn't has made a bid. 

I thought pretty hard about not making any bids for the whole auction, taking the best remaining units and starting off $75 million ahead of most people. Certainly you'd be able to get good hitters that way, though I'm not so sure about the pitching. In the end I obviously didn't follow that strategy, but I hope someone does it, because I'd like to see how that strategy works out.

My guess is that whoever follows that strategy may well lose so many games that the margin would disappear in a couple of seasons . . .
