I'm pleased that NCAA ended up #13 and in the "distinguished world" category.  We've worked hard to build a quality world. Thanks for putting that together tomjames.

That's the thing.   If "my"(and I'm speaking generally as everyone likely thinks the same way) worlds aren't near the top, the rankings will be dismissed.   Almost everyone believes their world is a good world.   I'm sure tomjames will say "It's just the formula" when people inevitably call him names because their world is 103 but he created the formula.   So you have to ask "Did he tweak it to move his worlds up?" because I would.

A handful of worlds are often mentioned as the "top" worlds in the forums.    If NABCL, MGraham, Moneyball, Coop and APastime aren't near the top, most will assume the program is flawed.   Beyond that, no ratings system can determine if you enjoy your world.   And, really, that's the most important thing.
" If NABCL, MGraham, Moneyball, Coop and APastime aren't near the top, most will assume the program is flawed. "

All top 10.  MB, MG, Coop were 1, 2, 3.

The program is not flawed.

In defense of "Cochrane" which is one of the leagues I commish, we only became private at the beginning of last season... So we will get better now that we have control over who is allowed in the league...

knuckle, i'm on the phone as a caller.  not accepting?
I didn't catch this otherwise I would've answered. A lot of times I am looking at a page with rankings or other stats and not the chat/switchboard. Normally guys don't call or even show up in the chat room so I don't pay that close attention. Now that we have peoples attention a little bit I will keep a closer eye on it. Sorry man.

I just want to say that I appreciate all the work that went into this. TomJames did a great job at putting together the rankings and he doesn't play favorites. As he said, he's trying to determine the most competitive leagues HE feels are out there. This is his formula and he's looking for the best competition.

There are some things you can't rank. Like people that game the system. Like the people in the league and how you get along with them. Wether or not you have fun. Theres no "fun" ranking. I'd guess its relative. If you expect to win and don't, it sucks. If you expect to lose and don't or do, its fine. Anyways like someone said, having fun is whats most important. If fun for you is dominating the competiton without much effort or less effort then pick a patsy league.

Otherwise I will go out on a limb and say tomjames is accurate in his evaluation of the leagues. In 6 months we'll see if anythings changed. Bottom line is we're trying to add a little fun to the game and hope you like the show and rankings.

I'd like to do HBD wide TEAM records. I mean who had the most SBs, HRs, etc for an entire team not single players. I think this would be a great list to compile and will be something I work on. Im not much at spreadsheets but I think I have some assistance on that with all our hbdnews bloggers.

"The way I came up with the ranking was based off my power rankings formula. I did 10 seasons of power rankings to get your league average, and then I figured out your 10 season retention rate, percentage of teams that made the playoffs the last 10 seasons and how many different World Series champions you’ve had during the last 10 seasons. Everything was added together to get your results and your ranking. [If you league finishes it’s 10th season during week your league will be added to the list.] This will be done every 6 months or until your tired of seeing it."

The retention rate, % of teams that made the playoffs, and different WS champs are self explanatory, but what was the methodology of your power rankings?  I am just curious how that was worked out.  Was there a previous topic thread on this subject?  If so, please excuse my ignorance on that.  And thanks for the work on the rankings!
