I made a recruit scraper tool for HD - update v1.2 Topic

I loved the GD recruit tool - it kept me playing for probably 4 or 5 more seasons because of the massive amounts of time it saved, otherwise I'd have bailed as soon as I played my first HD season.

I'm not sure if I'll use the HD tool, but if it can mass call I'll for sure use it to save myself time, lots of time, as Yatzr puts it. With a family including a 14-month old kid, some summer trips planned and a demanding job the time save is worth a separate $10 "thank you" to Yatzr for making his way into HD even though I've already "donated" for the GD extra features.

Will this tool allow me to spot better recruits? Probably not - that's not why I want it. Will it help me build super teams? Nope! Will it help me out-coach the top teams in the land? No. Will it save me time so I can enjoy the rest of my life? Ding-Ding-Ding! As much as I love HD and recruiting is the best part, I also don't like my wife getting ****** when I'm on my laptop at 12:30 pm recruiting on a Saturday so I can get my effort in before the 1pm cycle hits!

The GD tool has saved me countless hours searching for recruits and my biggest complaint about HD was the time spent clicking through each scouted recruit to assess potential, I've downloaded the current version and it will definitely save me lots of time, thanks yatzr!

I don't have a problem with him making a buck if people are willing to spend money on the product.  However, I feel like this has been attempted before many seasons ago by another user (who may not be as diligent as yatzr) who never followed through on his product and a small number of people probably wasted their money on it.  I'm not in GD so I don't know anything about it.  There seems to be a pretty decent following though.

I am against giving out too much to make things easier.  Not the scraping tool, I don't mind that, but giving out equations that people use to rate players would eventually make the game rather vanilla.  Everyone would have to devices to key in on the top recruits in minutes or seconds and there would be no advantage to actually searching for the best recruits.  I sound like vandydave here and perhaps I've become old school, but I miss the days where things aren't spoon fed to everyone.

That said, I'd love to see some way to send out a coach's call to everyone on my watch list at the start of recruiting b/c that does waste a lot of time.

If you would have just switched your "Results View" from "General" to "Ratings", you would've seen that this functionality is already built into HD.  Maybe you complained about this on the forum before and I didn't see it, but a simple forum post or a ticket to WIS would have given you that solution in a matter of minutes.

Pretty simple solution but Ryrun is correct.  One small switch on the Search page and voila!!

I'm a bit surprised HD is allowing him to charge for this and advertise about it on the boards. You can call it a "donation" until you're blue in the face, but it's really a payment for a service. You're more than welcome to pay more for it, but you have to pay (donate) at least $10.

I don't care one way or another on this, honestly. I have a halfway completed tool sitting around in my archives that I once was interested in putting together for people and distributing as open source, but I never had the time to finish it to my liking and it's just gathered dust. So I'd give him a + for the initiative to create it and a - for requiring a donation for it, so it's a wash in my mind.
Again, right now it is only open to donors, but the vast majority of  GD users don't have to donate. Basically, this is a "beta test" of his new tools, and he's just letting his donors have first crack at it.
This is one reason that I personally wouldn't purchase it now.  We basically had to pay to play beta testers for WIS when they were in the process of implementing potential.  Serious question, why would I want to pay to play beta tester again with this thing?  What if I donate my $10 and he decides not to go through with finishing the thing?  Some of you guys know him, but I don't and I don't play GD, so how do I know he's actually gonna follow through and put out a finished product, that would actually help me with HD, instead of leaving it in beta test stage?

What I would like to see, if he's as good as some of you suggest, is for him to create a game similar to this.  Now I'd jump on that in a heartbeat if it was as good as what we've got here.  At least I'd think that the guy running the game was "somewhat" interested in how the thing was running.  We sure do seem to have zero attention/interest from the people at WIS in regards to HD.

Ryrun is correct again here.  Whether you want to call it a "donation" or not does not change the fact that you are "purchasing" his service/product.  I can call it a "donation" the next time I go to pay for my gas, but call a spade a spade, you're buying a product, plain and simple.

I don't get it..  The guy is on here trying to help some players out and some people go out and bash him for it.  Some people are never happy....
Looks like he's trying to help his wallet out.
+1, if he really wanted to help people out, he'd make it free, or at least give it to those who thinks are most deserving...I don't take exception with the "tool" (which I find to be rather pointless/worthless), I take exception with the fact that he's charging a $10 "donation" for it...I want to challenge everyone that buys this thing in non-con...suckers.
Because putting hard work into something and asking for a small donation for the service(for a game he doesn't even play mind you) is a horrible thing, eh colonels?

Many of the "suckers" that are interested in these tools are a lot better at this game than colonels btw. If you don't like it don't buy it, no need to fling poo everywhere.

I'm not much for spreadsheets and will probably continue to eyeball recruits. That said,  please ignore this douche...he takes asshattery to a new level in every thread he posts in.
Narcotico, I am so glad to see someone else just "eyeballs" recruits and doesn't use spread sheets.  Reading a few of the different threads, I thought I might be the only one left that did that.  Seems to me that we're in a very small minority, but at least I know I'm not the only one.  The "eyeball test" is a pretty easy and quick way to judge a recruit, don't you think?  Pretty damn accurate too, I'd say.
Old school eyeballers unite!

I used to play GD and would probably be more interested in using it there if I still had a team because there are more recruits, more slots to fill, and there is no FSS. In HD it probably takes me 40 minutes at most to scan through scouted states and pick out the guys I like.

And I'm not saying buy it. If you don't trust it or don't want to, don't. Many of us already know what his tool does, and so many will be using it.

Updated the scraper tool for a couple changes people requested, so it's more usable until I get the HD recruit tool ready.

1400+ thread views in less than a week would be a high level of interest :)

Thanks for all your work Yatzr!
