Ted has been throwing out this whole thread that "Wirth is better and the only reason it's close is because he didn't play a full season".  That argument can easily go the other way - if Wirth had finished the year, his overall numbers could easily have dipped below Riley's. Durability should be considered when determining who was the best offensive player in a given season.

And no, you may not have said it exactly as I did, but you said that unless you have a backup who can perform as well as Wirth, he's not as valuable as a guy who plays 162 with similar stats, which is true.
as soon as you said 'if....' you lost your argument. we deal with things that did happen here in the real world, not 'if this and that then this would have happened'

Or they could have gotten much better.   You can only go by what they did.   As ted said when he responded to your post, Wirth qualified for the SS.    You can't determine who wins the SS based on what happened when a player didn't play.

But that should be a factor for MVP.

Also, as dedelman already pointed out, you don't need an ALL Star type of performance out of those 180 PAs to equal Riley's output. Most hitters, even defensive backups will generate the difference  in 180 PAs so that WRT RC: Wirth + scrub bench player > Riley.

I've seen many of scrub players that were really bad. Not sure anyone knows for sure if Wirth and scrubs equal Riley. But I'll take the extra 40 games. The stats are close enough that those 40 games are huge.

The math was something like only 9 more RC from the scrub over 180 PA.

Even this guy got almost 11 RC in only 127 PA
