Here are my comments on the draft...
My plan coming into this draft was always to grab my deadball pitchers late (since there were many reasonable options at decent prices), so I was glad that Wood & Young went in the first round. I was hoping Lowe would make it back to me in round 3, but no luck. batandball grabbed Frank Sullivan right before I was going to take him, so at this point, I decided to load up on good relievers and grab somebody like Schilling or Beckett late.
With my first 8 picks, I was spending like this was an unlimited cap league. Then right before my round 9 pick, I mapped out the rest of my team, and quickly realized that I had spent way too much. I first had to downgrade my versions of Ted Williams and Tris Speaker. I was going to grab Nomar with my 9th round pick, but luckily realized I couldn't afford him - that's when I started to grab cheaper valued-picks like Pesky, Freeman and Mueller.
Up until the last few rounds, I was still planning on taking Schilling or Beckett, but did a U-turn and decided to use Steele as a SP to go along with Dinneen and Arellanes, giving me 727 IPs of deadball pitching. Throw in Hughson and Buchholz, and my pitching should be ok, despite spending only $47M on it.
