I was hoping for CP3 to fall to me. After that it was between Dwight and Stockton, but I felt Dwight offered a little more with higher Usg. Not sure either was the right call, but I figured the great high-Usg guys would be gone by the time I pick again. Thought about Moses for a minute, but his flaws seemed worse than Dwight's to me.

Look, I know normally a Harden team would only be good for 30 wins, but do the math: 5 Harden teams could be good for 150 wins!

I really rushed that pick because I was tied up in something and didn't want to hold up the draft. But already having buyer's remorse since I wasn't at a comp and forgot Gilmore is uni-positional for the most part.

how many points do you think it will take to win it all.... over or under 300?

I think under 300. That would be 60 points per league. You'd have to average roughly 50 wins and making the conference finals across all five leagues to get that. If anyone does that well I'd be really surprised; my best guess is the winner will be around 285. Unless someone just up and dominates this thing.

Btw I just noticed in answering that question that playoff wins are worth the same as regular season wins. In systems like this I've seen before, playoff wins might be worth 2 points (or maybe 1.5). Having them worth less somewhat lessens the impact of missing the playoffs, and probably encourages bigger swings at titles even if it means higher variance. That may be a good thing - just observing, not questioning.

yes, only 1 point per playoff win.... so is trying to maximize regular season wins across all 5 seasons a better strategy than trying to stack 1 or 2 seasons to make a deep playoff run and then having 1 or 2 seasons that suck. talk amongst yourselves.

Yea I didn’t want to give to much of a point advantage to the playoff teams. You know there’s always those 47 win teams that miss the playoffs and are better then the 43 win team that made the playoffs in a weaker division/conference

Yea he’s stuck at center but that’s a whole lot of paint scoring and rebounding you’re getting with heavy mins. I had him as a 1st rounder.

I love Gilmore in this, nice pick.

Gilmore has been a quiet monster for me in the TEPL. This league is a great use of him.

I had a top 16 and then a group of 6 that I have no clear cut order of preference.

15 of the top 16 went already, so I guess that's a decent sign that I'm not seeing things on an island. It makes me nervous for that 16th guy to go though because having 6 guys to make one pick from with no clear favorite leaves the door open for a very costly mistake.

7. jpevans31 - Dwight Howard - I reconsidered and moved Dwight back up to his rightful position of just behind Kareem & Shaq. You have to consider that he is both a paint/efg% monster with elite defense AND board-lord. And he can play the 4 or the 5. He helps you in every facet of the game and is worthy of the top 3 ranking in my book. This was absolutely the right pick, jp, and was the steal of the draft when you took him.

8. samuelyork93 - John Stockton - I don't have this guy ranked specifically, as I quit ranking at 15. I just had him graded as mid-late 1st, which could mean 12-24. I had somewhat hoped he'd fall to me at 23, as with this one single pick, you don't have to worry about grabbing guys with low ast% at other positions. He also gives you close to 20% usage with at worst mid 50s efg% and even up to 60% in some seasons while always above 60 defense - some years 80! Him falling was clearly a pipe-dream haha!

9. gerryred - David Robinson - I had Admiral ranked 11th on my board but saw him anywhere from 8-15 as a great place. Top notch D, solid boards, always at least tier 3 usage with a few nice efg% seasons and a couple of others that won't hurt you.

10. dskantor - Moses Malone - I had Moses just above the Admiral. More minutes, more boards... less defense... efg% roughly the same but maybe a little worse in his best seasons. Easier to build around, as he can go at the 4 or the 5. Splitting hairs between them.

11. pexetera - Charles Barkley - Kind of ****** at myself for trading back because I could have had Chuck. He's going to be insane in this format. His below average (and bad a couple of seasons) defense is almost completely negated by the efg%/usg%/paint%/fouled% combo and the advantage on the boards he gives at the 3 for the seasons you can use him there (crazy good season at the 4 as well). He's my all-time favorite player and a fantastic piece to build around. I had him 7, and with better D I would have him at 4 above the Mailman.

12. dbkc - James Harden - So I take it Harden does poorly in draft leagues? I would never have thunk it. I had him 9 here. The guy has a solid amount of minutes, great boards and assists for a 2 (can even play at the 1), tons of threes, solid efg% for the usage he has (made better by the drafting 5 thing), great fouled%, *choking as I say this* really good defense most seasons... what's not to like? Oh yeah, turnovers. I still think he's one of the easier guys to build around in this format.

13. ysw128 - Deandre Jordan - I had Deandre as a mid-late 1st grade. Superb rebounding, defense, and efg%. Too bad he has low usg and not a 3k+ minute guy or he'd be a ******* monster here.

14. pharrop - Larry Bird - This is exactly where I had Bird, but I think anything between 5-20 would have been a great value for him. He has 2 elite seasons and easily 3 more great seasons. Gives you a nice usg%/efg%/ast%/def combo with plenty of dreb% for a 3 (or a 2 some seasons if you like).

15. robusk - Artis Gilmore - To me, this is the steal of the draft thus far. I had Gilmore 8. Most of the best seasons are tier 3 usg% (with a couple high tier 2), top notch efg%, good to great defense, and a board lord. Oh and a metric ****-ton of minutes. Once again, when you are able to get a board lord that is also a killer paint/efg%/usg% dude, he has absurdly high value in my book. Turnovers, fouls, and positional flexibility might drop him a bit in the evaluation process, but to me, those positives far outweigh the negatives.

Hey if Ash thinks I made a good pick then I’ll stop second guessing myself. Thanks, now I can relax!
5/22/2020 4:59 PM
Hey ash: I am curious how a local TV news guy in Texas ends up with someone from Alabama, who played the bulk of his career in Philly and Phoenix as his all time favorite player.
