1979 Pirates
Surprised these guys lasted this long. Nice pickup!
Thanks...I was surprised as well. There are still a few teams out there that I thought would be gone but all that can change once the daggers start flying! May have to adjust your build.

The 1929 Athletics are obviously a Superstar.

Team is obviously stacked from top to bottom with an incredible amount of flexibility.
A .354 avg 1B, .642 SLG OF, Lefty Grove with an incredible 2.81 ERA and 298 IP. The amazing 4 Cheapies in Boley, Summ, Orwoll, and Cronin all under $600K. This team is undoubtedly stacked from top to bottom. Being a bad neighbor looking at this team is...challenging.
There is obviously some short comings at 3B with Sammy Hale batting .277 with a subpar PA. At 2B Max Bishop has the opposite problem with a good amount of PA but an abysmal .232 avg. I'll be very interested to see the end result.

I had some options being this early to pick, and there is some bad teams out there. kentol, say hello to the 1929 Boston Braves.

You have some cheap options with the Braves, but wanted to remove a lot of the flexibility that the A's gave you. A pitching staff that does not have an ERA below 4.40 hampers your ability to have all the pitchers that you would like. Your 2B options go from bad to worse when you have to 2B that have an OPS+ below 90. Some of the higher averages on this team are hampered that this team as a whole hit 33 HR's for an entire season. I was just as scared to roster this team as I was to give it to you. Good Luck!

For peeves 1949 Brooklyn Dodgers, the boys of summer just a few years before they were at their best.

I think you'll actually like this team you're getting. I'm hoping you see the problem in later rounds. We'll see. I often overthink these picks. Hopefully I didn't do it this time.

I gift you Harlond Clift and the 1939 St Louis Browns.

well Beernoser, you saved yourself from getting the '39 Browns yourself. I will stay with the theme of trying not to overthink it. Your 79 Dodgers are good all around with power bats in Garvey, Lopes, Cey, and Baker plus Sutton, Hooten, and Sutcliffe give you good starting pitching. Similarly, I will try to give you a team that is all around bad. The 39 Phils have a few slap hitters and you get a decent CF in Arnovich plus 120 good innings from Syl Johnson but there is a reason they only won 45 games. Good luck.

Lennyistall has the 1939 Yankees - they are very good. They provide a really good option at every position but 1B and a couple of subs at OF and C. Their pitching staff provides 3 options with Ruffing, Gomez, and Russo. My goal was to find no help at 1B, no subs, and weak pitching.

The 39 phils were headed your way but instead I gift you the 1979 Oakland A’s. You get an offense that has no real roster options other than a cheap 3B sub that could be a ripe dagger target. The pitching is also putrid. Good luck.

7 jstephen25 screwed by Ribbentrop TUES 8pm-10pm--

The first thing i noticed about the 1929 Chicago Cubs Record: 98 - 54
is the 4 SP 233 285 289 290 IP with $/IP 24,893-20,378 .. Wasn't sure what to think of that in perspective

noticing the ERA as well ... For the 4 SP it looks like a median of 120 (100-135) for both ERA+ and ERC+

And on Offense 1929 Rogers Hornsby Salary: $10,620,951 And Footsie Blair at 2B with 83 PA
And other studs

I gift you the 1949 Washington Senators with Highest salary offense

1949 Eddie Robinson Salary: $4.20M

and Pitcher 1949 Ray Scarborough Salary: $4.73M
And his 4.60 ERA

Ribbentrop, you have a good core in Schoendienst, Musial and Slaughter plus some pitching flexibility. The worst I could do, as proxy for the team called "No Use for an Owner", is give you the 79 Blue Jays. They have an ok 1B in Mayberry and his .833 OPS plus maybe 3 options at P that are worse than what you already have but not much else. Good luck.

BeAllEndAll will be receiving the 1969 Montreal Expos, good luck!

It is now mandatory that we all read Ball Four (again?) and hold a book club.

I'm ready to provide eman with his first gift and some sweet words of encouragement.

Holding until 3pm ET-- unless the time slot before me makes their selection prior to that.

Midknight gets 79 Seattle Mariners

59 Yankees solid deep team in the Mariners we add some of and 1b help but no cheap options and very little pitching

I gave Vilefileman an extra half hour, but alas it’s time to drop the hammer. If I’ve learned one thing in this league, it’s that nothing says awful quite like the Kansas City A’s. And so I hereby gift the 1959 A’s to VFM. Good luck!

The A’s have two useful future managers in Whitey Herzog and Dick Williams. So that’s something. They have really no usable pitchers at all. They have only one player under $1M. They have no backups at two positions where your Twins also had no backups (1B and SS). But they do have Roger Maris with a 61 (er, make that 16) homer season. Should be fun for you.

redcped - I’m a bit jet lagged right now so I’ll be quick. Your ‘59 O’s have a nice rotation but not much else. Their hitting is fragmented and the bullpen is subpar. My gift to you is the 1969 Cleveland Indians. They offer Sudden Sam at $9.2m as an ace and Tiant who is similar to those you already have. More subpar relievers and more fragments on offense. Enjoy!
