Again we need to realize that government regulations are so all encompassing that almost every food processing company has some violations.

It is like speeding tickets. The root cause is to get people to slow down for safety, but in reality it is a undeclared tax on driving.

Somebody needs to explain the difference between a fine and a tax to you.

creilman, do we know that DeCoster is getting "corporate welfare"?  I'm against any and all farm subsidies, so I'd be interested to hear if any government money is being channeled into companies paying fines for health violations.
Honestly Todd, that statement was geared more toward the whole idea of what theses subsidies are going to than it was to DeCoster specifically, but.......they did get around 15 mil in subs during the late 80's early 90's.  Don't know what they're getting today.

Guess it's time to start building a wall around our coastlines.

Migrants turn to the sea to enter US illegally

SAN DIEGO — The speedboat is about three miles offshore when a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent cuts the engine to drift on the current in quiet darkness, hoping for the telltale signs of immigrant smuggling — sulfur fumes or a motor's whirr.

"It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack, and the haystack is the Pacific Ocean," agent Tim Feige says minutes before sunrise marks the end to another uneventful shift.

This is a new frontier for illegal immigrants entering the United States — a roughly 400-square-mile ocean expanse that stretches from a bullring on the shores of Tijuana, Mexico, to suburban Los Angeles. In growing numbers, migrants are gambling their lives at sea as land crossings become even more arduous and likely to end in arrest

Hmm? todd didn't say anything about fines or taxes.

I was speaking to an entity that no longer exists to you.

Ah.

My point, that I know you understand but choose to ignore, is that cities assume a certain amount of fines from traffic violations as part of their revenue. They dont want people to stop speeding.

Same with Federal Regulations.

Some of it isnt specific. It just means that there are no more stimulus plans, no more tax increses. Eliminate things like the Departments of Education and Energy.
And replace with???

Eliminate some of the 50 years of liberal regulations that are strangling business in America.
Like???

Serious tort reform.
Specifically?

Strong illegal immigration laws.
Like??

Privitize Social Security. Repeal Obamacare.
How do we guarantee retirement accounts against the pitfalls of the market?  Should we regulate private insurers to get fair prices?

Fight for free trade.
What is the current state of trade?

As I said some of it isnt specific.
You, like your Tea Party brethren, are never specific.  This is what makes the conversation so difficult.

It is just a new way of looking at things. Problems are best not solved by the Federal Government. Once we as a nation accept that we move forward.
Not a new way of looking at things. Libertarianism has been around for centuries.

That may be your point, but it doesn't erase the difference between a tax and a fine.

Responding to Creilman's 5:39 post...

There were always people doing Energy (Interior) and Education (HEW) in the past. They spent less money to do them. We need less departments, less czars, less government.

Regulations. What started as simple and logical now applies to every aspect of our lives. Osha, CAFE, ADA, Endangered species...etc.

Tort reform just creates caps on punitive damages (Not on actual damages) so a simple issue isnt a lottery win. Also punishes the losers so we dont have so many cases where the lawyer will take the case for free, and if he wins one out of 10 he is still a winner.

Seal off the border. Ban sanctuary cities. Eliminate the anchor baby loophole. Set up a verifiable guest worker program for farm work and other low end jobs.

Even with the crash people would have been better off investing in the market for the last 45 years. Markets go up and down in the short run, up in the long run.

Free trade is good now, but people on the left want to go back to 1930 and impose huge tarrifs. Worked great then.

You cannot be specific about everything. You have beliefs and directions. No one could lay out all of Obama's plans before he was elected. No one could lay out any Presidents plans. Asking to explain in detail everything you plan to do in the future is an old trick. You are better than that!

It is some libertarian, but also some Republican. It takes the best of our nation and puts us back in the column of common sense.

I'm not asking you to be specific on everything, just on something.  I've seen you complain in several other threads that nobody will talk about these issues.  That all liberals just want to censor you.  Yet when someone actually does start talking specifics with you, you either check out or get sidetracked by some comment by Nick.  It's easier for you to direct your rhetoric at Nick's hit-and-run comments.  I've tried addressing your desire to eliminate the Depts of Education and Energy in the past. Usually I end up having a nice conversation with wrmiller, or todd or anyone else except you.  You're too busy "defending your honor".

So if you're serious about discussing these topics, pick one.  Tell us why we'd be better off without OSHA.  Tell us how our fuel standards, which are the lowest in the developed world, are crippling industry.  Just don't claim that you are being censored or that "the left" is afraid to debate you.

1 It isnt a rant that I am being censored by the left. Just beacuse you dont do it doesnt mean it is happening.

2 Let me pick a few of my favorites.

What would be the down side of Tort Reform. You always point to the rest of the world, isnt our legal system a global oddity?

Saying you work for 40 years. If someone retired this year would they have been better off investing half of their SS in a general blue chip mutual for the last 40 years?

Other places create standards that help them. Our standards are being created to help the world. GM should be able to sell the cars that make them money.

How much has the ADA cost American business? Is the tiny percentage of people it helps worth the overall cost?

Education and Energy got Departments as mostly political posturing. What does the DOE do that a branch of HHS couldt do with less money.

So when someone asks you how we would be better off you answer by asking a question? You are really a great debater swamp! You think we should get rid of the Dept. of Education because you do not know what they do? You ask if someone would not be better after 40 years in a mutual fund? If you believe that Soc. Sec. should be privatized then PROVE IT! Tell me how I would be better off. I guess you only get the short form talking points, not the one with the specifics.

There seems to be some confusion amongst the far right as to what censorship is.  If people choose to ignore you, that is not the same as censoring you.  If people speak against your POV, that does not in any way infringe on your 1st Amendment rights.

When given the chance to clearly define your position, you respond with questions and defer to generalizations.  You don't need to cover five topics in one post.  I know you dislike regulations.  I know you think that public services should be privatized.  WHY do you think this?
