I understand the A/B and D comp picks, but my question was if any of those picks do not sign, would I get a Type D next season, or are they lost?  Sorry if I wasn't very clear earlier, thanks for the info.

Depends on how you build your teams.  That's a lot of money for a guy who is nothing more than a league average hitter.   However, he's a GG 2B/CF and he'll steal a ton of bases.    The closest example I have is Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Glenn Gibbs.   I'd pay him 8-9m for what he does for me.

i think i know what your answer will be, but i'll ask anyway. which would you rather do when taking over a team that made the playoffs the season previous: end up with more regular season wins but miss the playoffs or end up with less regular season wins but make the playoffs? and to go along with that, if we're talking about a playoff contender, would you consider your season a success if you made it further in the playoffs than the team had the previous season under the previous owner?

and if we're talking a non playoff contender the season before, would you consider your season a success if you won more regular season games than the previous owner/season (yet still didnt' make the playoffs)?

Make the playoffs.   I consider any playoff run a success. 

Yes, improving a team from the previous season is also a success(although, if you took over a 41 win team, big ******* deal).
