Lang probably brings some trade value. Find teams that really value defense behind the plate. He's not a bad player.

I'd definitely start Payton over Lang but if Lang was all I had I wouldn't be out on the market looking for someone else. Probably would not hesitate to use Peyton in right and Lang at C.

I love guys like Lang, who are defensive studs at C and not a total zero with the bat. That said, Payton is way better.

If I couldn't trade Lang for equal value, I would start Payton against RHP and Lang against LHP for the first 130-140 games of the season, because Payton can't start more than about 110-115 games without fatiguing. Then, down the stretch and in the playoffs, Payton becomes the full-time starter. Use Lang as Payton's defensive replacement at all times.

Payton needs to be in the lineup as much as possible. Lang is a great catcher and not a bad hitter. I’d put Payton at RF or DH if you have that option. What kind of hitter do you have now at RF?

Nobody really was interested in Lange.

I’ve stuck with a triple of him, Payton and Player Profile: Marcell Rodriguez - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports in some combo of C and RF. Payton plays both, Lange plays C and Rodriguez plays RF.

Anyone ever ran a 3 man rotation?

I usually do a 4 man rotation, but I came up short 1 starter coming out of the offseason. I do a 3 man over spring training w/40 pitch counts, so I know it's technically possible, but I'm curious if anyone has ever done it over a full season. The plan would be to use my 2 starters with DUR/STA combos of 35/73 & 34/82 and then one of my best relievers with 51/46. Then my 3rd starter would essentially be a LRA/Spot Starter.

When I do a 4 man I usually put my pitch counts about 20 pitches over their stamina, but now I'm thinking maybe set the pitch counts just below their stamina (ie.70, 80 and maybe 50). I'll have a few guys in the pen with great DUR/STA combos as well to take on additional innings.

Amateur draft question if anyone can help.

What's standard protocol for non-first round guys who want an obscene bonus? My second round pick (#83 overall, pitcher) is someone I'd like to sign, has potential to be an MLer, but wants an $8M bonus. Also says he 'probably won't sign, he's determined to finish out his college career'. I like him but certainly don't want to give him $8M. What do you do here? My 8th round pick is in the same boat, demanding $7.5M and says he probably won't sign. Is there any recourse here?

Make sure that you offer them. If they reject the offer then you will get compensation picks for both next season. If you don't offer them, you won't get anything in return.

Is there a chance they accept the offer, or since they say "probably won't sign..." they are definitely rejecting?
4/12/2020 1:24 PM
The only players that you can pretty much be assured of them rejecting your offer are the "probably won't sign" players that have Mother listed as their consultant.

You get a comp pick for the second rounder, but not the eighth.
Amateur Draft How do I get a Type D compensation pick? If you don't sign your true first round pick, second round pick, or third round pick you will be awarded with a Type D pick the following season.

In order to receive the compensation pick you must offer the player 100% of his initial demands, he must refuse to sign, and you must never withdraw your offer to the draft pick at any time. If the player counters and you wish to make a new offer you can do so but the new offer must be 100% of his new demands and it must also not be withdrawn. Essentially your last offer must have been at least 100% of his demands at the time the offer was made and never withdrawn.

If those conditions are met then you will receive a compensation pick in next seasons draft in the same slot that you picked the previous season plus one depending on any other shifting from franchises that were awarded Type D compensation picks before you. This holds true for the first and second round. For third round compensation picks you will receive a pick in a supplemental round at the end of the third round in the following seasons draft.

Compensation round picks for Type A and Type B FAs DO NOT qualify for Type D compensation picks.

Oops, I read that as 8th overall pick. I need to pay more attention.

I run 4 man rotations almost exclusively or 4 man and a tandem. I do not see a way to do 3 man rotation with out leaving quality innings on the table unless the sp in the roation are worse then the rp's.

Why is https://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerRatings.aspx?pid=10425428 41 rated? He seems like a pretty solid hitter unless there's something I'm overlooking. Bad health scores but he could be a backup, right?

The 33 durability is the main reason for the low overall. He's going to get tired putting on his uniform. As far as a player, he's a slightly below average hitter and he's a DH.
