Free Agency in S3? I can't believe I messed this up in the 10th/11th rounds.

Ben rigged the NBA lotto
Ben traded a half used bottle of Frank's Red Hot and a three year old bag of moldy potato chips - not Lays', mind you - to Sacramento for #1 before the lottery results were even announced. Vlade wanted Lays' before he stepped down but Ben was adamant that no one would give up a fresh bag of Lays' for the number one pick in this market, and so Vlade graciously settled for old Utz. The savagery.

I know no one cares cuz no one comments on my stuff but since this is a commentary thread, I'll comment on my own team:

PG A. Hardaway/ D. Collison/ J. Terry
SG Paul Pierce/ A. Kirilenko/ J. Terry/ D. Curry
SF A. Kirilenko/ P. Pierce/ B. Wright/ C. Anderson/ D. Curry
PF A. Drummond/ C. Anderson/ J. Nurkic/ B. Wright
C D. Robinson/ J Nurkic/ T. Robinson/ C. Anderson

My perceived strengths: Plus eFG, Plus D at 3 of 5 spots, average D at the others, no one with really poor D. Plus rebounding--both O and D. Aside from Penny, TO's should be relatively low. Fkexibility of swapping Kirilenko and Pierce to defend oppo better player. Blocks.

My perceived weaknesses: Could be some low usage when Anderson/T Rob, Wright & Collison are on the floor together. Other than AK-47 & the Admiral, not a ton of steals. Lack of three's & poor 3 pt% of some key starters. Team asst% could be a bit low.

Overall, a MUCH better team than last year, although that isn't saying a lot. D Rob & Drummond will be hard to handle in the paint. Pierce gives pretty effective usage in his best five years. Terry gives me some quality backup mins at the 1 and 2 spots. Two headed monster of Wright & C Anderson gives me very high %'s in limited opportunities and plus D. T Robinson provides stud rebounding #'s in limited mins although avg D at best. I don't think I'll get outrebounded often, and for the most part, shouldn't have trouble scoring and scoring efficiently. If I had to compute expectations, I'd say near .500 overall, one or two playoff teams hopefully, and middle of the pack in points--wich would be a HUGE improvement needless to say.

What’s the deadline on getting teams in? I’m going on vacation this weekend and would prefer to not spend it with my deck of index cards. I think my wife is even more so of that opinion.

Did we get league numbers?

Look at 19-20 Giannis. 40.1 CReb%!!!!!! 37.5 Usg%!!!!!!!
like 2000 minutes and a big pile of dirty towels lying in the corner of his disney hotel room. Giannis sux! (my opinion may or may not be influenced by drafting him in the 1st round of Savage 1)

Anyone doing self evals? Here goes...

I had a simple plan conceptually going in. Rebounds, Def, find enough scoring and limit towels. I poked at Ben in the 1st round, but I had Gilmore higher than Dr J on my board and I think Gilmore is right around 10 in this format. I pivoted at the last minute because while Gilmore gives great eFG with good usage, very good rebounding and good D - his towels are a little high and his rebounding isn't next level. It's on par roughly with his position. Dr J gives 3 seasons that are head and shoulders above almost every other SG. So if you want a plus rebounding advantage you need it at PG, SG or maybe SF with Rodman, that one Garnett season or cobble together a bunch of Faried et al low minute guys who only rebound. So I went with Doc and looking at the board thought I had a very good chance of Doc and a top front court player on the wrap around. I was right and got Wallace and was very happy.

Ibaka I regret a little. I had Bobby Jones lined up and you know who did you know what. And in drafts I tend to stick to my plan a little too much and should try to be more agile. In retrospect more usage would have been better here with Wallace having so little. Not a bad pick though, certainly the D is good and ok usage.

I probably got luck with Rondo. I was in DESPERATE need of assists and he fits my D first approach and actually has some pretty good rebounding seasons. If he wasn't there I'd have been forced to take a PG with much worse D or a front court player with Wallace that had assists and that can really limit you. So very happy at this point, although the lack of 3's is starting to concern me.

As Ash correctly pointed out Boozer was in my sights. Would have been such a good fit with my D. I even had a joke prepared for Ash about team Afro - Boozer would have fit right in with his chest hair!!!! Anyways I really didn't think someone would take him that early, but JH beat me to it and kudos to him. Vucevic isn't too bad. Couple of seasons that compare well, but it falls off after that.

Happy with Sabonis in the 6th to support Vucevic and softens the blow of not getting Boozer. Rodney Rogers in the 7th is a good player, not a great fit in retrospect. Nice all around guy, but a 3 point shooting machine is what was needed more. Flirted with Otto Porter and looked at some other Danny Green wannabe's and should have gone in that direction.

Mark Jackson is fine and allows me to not worry too much about assists for my second unit. Defense is starting slip a little. Same with Caldwell Jones, very nice Wallace back up. Blake Griffin will play a lot of SF for me and give me usage, rebounds and some 3's in latter seasons. Jason Richardson fills in for a couple Rogers gaps and Bosh was going to fill in the second line with one higher usage season at PF, but looking at a couple of his SF seasons now.

Overall grade B. I prepped a LOT and realize I need to prep even more for Savage 3. I think my team will have a couple/3 good seasons I think should make the playoffs. I had very high expectations but my ability to prep as the draft approached became difficult.

My team names will be move sequels.

Boozer is great. I think I would prefer Vuc and D Sabonis though. If trades were allowed, I think we would have figured something out.

Drummond is a great post complement to the Admiral. You're going to have some very good teams in Penny's good years. Beyond that, hard to say. While I haven't crunched the numbers, based on eyeballing it I would share your concerns that you're going to have some usage issues (especially on the teams without the good Penny seasons).

Dang! Wish I'd known that. Boozer for Vucevic, Sabonis and my Savage 3 7th rounder. Think we can get that approved?

With Pierce and Admiral you should be ok with usage. But if you're running Pierce out there as your primary scorer you'll have other issues....

Overall nice team. As tarheel said the good penny years with Robinson, drummond and AK - I think you'll complete. If you can avoid having to use pierce too much. I almost like Terry next to those Penny starting 5's
