Interpreting theme rules as posted at the beginning of this thread.

We have two unusual situations. In one (NL West) we have one team over .500 but it has the worst point totals. In the other (AL West) we have a possibility of all 4 teams finishing below .500 (not the case currently, just a possibility).

In determining the playoff spots I read the rules and interpret them as follows:

In the NL West the teams that finished over .500 with the best point totals of those teams (finishing over .500) wins the division. The other teams compete for a wild card slot.

In the AL West if no team finishes over .500 they all compete for the division by the best points total.

If anyone interprets these outcomes differently I am not opposed to bringing in Biglenr to weigh in on this. I understand that by my interpretation my team stands to gain and I wouldn't want to create any misgivings or misunderstandings.

going forward I will continue to update of course but I will use one format or the other. The old format with point totals broken out or the new format with W-L (points). I'll do either but not enough time in my real life to do both.

winnetka...great job... I prefer the W/L format with points. I would interpret as you do. Highest point total of teams over .500 gets the division title and wild card goes to the best record regardless of point total.

In one other twist you might prepare for: would if there is a WC tie? Rather than go by head-to-head record, I would go with the fielding score, for the same reasoning you've expressed before.

To win a division, win PCT is the gating factor (.500), and the best field equation is the differentiator. I'm proposing essentially the same formula for the WC: win PCT is the gating factor (in this case, best PCT in league), and again the field equation be the differentiator.

You could reasonably choose head-to-head as the tie-break, but this doesn't seem as in keeping with the spirit of the league theme.
