Either way, running a 10-0 easy NC only works for empty conferences, in terms of bolstering bad teams. Good teams can do it, but they also can back it up in conference. A bad BCS school (and trust me I know from experience) can have a stellar NC and decent RPI, but even 6 wins in conference isn't going to get you an rpi worthy of the NT, maybe not even the PT.

I just don't think you can adequately compare a D2 rebuild to a D1, there are just too many factors that make it more difficult. The recruiting pool alone makes a C or less rebuild so much more difficult.

You, my friend. Have obviously not taken over a hind-*** rebuild in a power conference.

Whoa, whoa , whoa this isn't about just making the NT. This is about WINNING the NT. Furry's comment was about seasons to titles ratios, not seasons to NT appearances ratio. When I told him that some coaches liked to rebuild teams and that might make their ratios look bad, he said that a good coach should be able to rebuild a team into a national contender in a handful of seasons, not a team that just makes the big dance. So if you think the challenge is about just making the dance, you might want to reconsider taking that bet. It's about WINNING A NATIONAL TITLE in ten seasons.

And Brian, you said that rebuilding a team into a contender in D1 was easier than in D3. Hate to break this to you, but when the rest of the world talks about a contender, they are talking about "contending" for a championship. Nobody walks around bragging that their team is a contender to make the big dance, if they say their team is a contender, then they're talking championships.

I went back and looked and I have to apologize to you Brian. You just said rebuild and didn't use the word "contender". For that, I was wrong and I'm sorry.

Brian would definitely qualify for that job. Transfer over to Virginia Tech and take over that train wreck. I'll give you ten seasons to do it. If you can win a national Title at Virginia Tech within ten seasons of taking over, I'll buy you THREE ten packs for your time and trouble. Hell, you can even let your mentor Furry run the team if you want. Ten seasons, one National Title. You guys claim it's so easy to rebuild a D1 team in a BCS conference, man up and put your money where your mouths are. You up for it?

Emy if I am qualified ill accept you challenge. BTW I never said it was easy to win a title but to make acontender. I may not win a title but I will have them in the nt allot I am sure of it.

Oops, missed that one. Apology about the use of the word "contender" retracted.

LOL. I can tell you from personal experience boosters are NOT the way to go in a C power conference rebuild. You get caught, you lose even more prestige for one thing, putting you even further behind in recruiting.

I'll be following your VT progress with great interest. It is quite arguably the worst BCS job out there, regardless of world. I'm still amazed I got out of there with my D1 credentials still intact.

BTW gargamel is doing exactly what furry says is a guarenteed NT plan right now at VT, so we'll see if it plays out that way.

I take a contendor as an elite 8 or final four team. And i would think that 1-2 of those with that virginia team in 10 seasons would be an accomplishment. And either way I am going to app for the job

With the situation that team is in right now, a couple of Elite Eight runs WOULD be a major accomplishment. You pull that off and I think a lot of people would be highly impressed.

Plus, it'll be nice to have another competitive coach in the conference. Ghost ship teams just suck.........

You said you were gonna be in town 90% of the time. Will Furry not be coaching your team the 10% of the time that you're not?
