Looks like one of the top worlds in HBD may be on life support.

sad...very very sad...

I don't see it that way. They are saying you can't cheat, you can't collude, you can't tank, you can't semi-abandon your team.

This is clearly in response to the multitude of well-publicized incidents recently involving tanking owners.

They're saying that an owner can be non-competitve, start players out of position, have exhausted pitchers pitch 200 pitches, check in once a week, obliterate the minors, blow out arms, mess up the draft, release good players, and probably countless other ways to mess up a franchise for seasons to come that I can't even think of. As long as you win your 41 and run out a pitcher above 50% once every blue moon.
this pretty much sums it up...

Commishes,

I recommend posting the policy in world chat and encourage your owners to follow through on the boycott, and send in tickets stating their intention to not spend another $ on HBD if they dont allow commishes the power to enforce the league rules.

again...apologies for the back to back posts...but it this really happened...and owners truly committed to it...admin would have to change it...but we all love this game and im guessing that when it came to "nut cutting" time...most owners would cave and pay the money as the game is too important to them...and admin knows this all too well...

As commish of Dirt, I have to say that these criteria are way different from what I was expecting, when WIS assured me they would be firming up guidelines a few weeks ago. I don't know about boycotting at this point, but I agree that these are not rules so much as huge, huge loopholes.

the idea regarding confirming that you agree with a "disclaimer" before being allowed into a league has merit...then there would be no excuses...you agreed not to behave in a specific way for a particular league...and agreed to be removed if you did behave against the rules...is this too simple for admin...if it's about the $25 for admin...i would support adding the 90 cents to every other owners fee to make up for the "lost" revenue if that is what it takes...

They will not be losing revenue because the private world will replace the owner.

Why they would want to basically de-privatize private worlds, is beyond me. A commish (acting with the consent of the majority of the other owners) MUST have the power to remove unwanted owners at his discretion. I can somewhat understand the reluctance to allow it to happen freely mid-season, seeing as how the potentially-removed owner has already paid them for 3 months of entertainment, but to not allow replacement at rollover-time is preposterous and simply unacceptable.
What is needed is a simple "disclaimer" when someone joins a "private" world. "I acknowledge that I may be removed at any future rollover at the Commisioners discretion. I will have NO recourse if this occurs." In addition at the all star break all commissioers should be put to a stay/be relieved vote and recieve the anonymous results. If relieved a new commissioner would be necessary by the rollover to stay private.

The problem with the new policy is quite simple. There are a million loopholes for tanking. Right now, you must win 41 games. You cannot use SP below 50% for 10 consecutive games and you must check in at least once every 5 days during ST.

These are not tough rules. One can join a world and lose their last 60 to finish 41-121. They would have been 41-61 and out of the playoff hunt. Nothing can be done. One can join a world and keep 1 relief pitcher rested at 100% to start and throw 5 pitches once every 10 games. Nothing can be done. No good world would tolerate that nonsense. But, now, there is no recourse.

Any rule you have regarding vetoes, cash, minor league management, stadiums, prospect money transfer, salary limits, win floors, etc., etc. is out the door. Nothing can be done.

I'm disgusted...I'm really not sure what to do. First they ruin public worlds and I guess that wasn't good enough for them so hey why not ruin private worlds as well.

This really is the issue. Those standards are pretty soft, but I'm fine with those being the baseline for in-season removal.

But commissioners should absolutely have final say over which group of owners starts a season after rollover. Otherwise, why would we need to "approve" the league before starting? If they're going to keep this policy, the least they could do is change the name of that button to "ready" or something.

Cooperstown lost 5 owners overnight. Many have requested the password in order to remove their teams and return if smoelheim voluntarily removes his team. As the world is technically full, there will be no reason for me to recruit more owner and replace them. Get a Snickers, this might be awhile.

I would boycott too.....I am glad our commish of Alexander(danman) is on board. Not sure about the Ruth commish. yet. It just lets alot of owners like pieo in and than kill private worlds some more.
4/9/2010 7:47 AM
As evidenced last season with both owners taunting me by insisting that I attempt to have ADMIN remove them immediately, I'm not big on in-season removal. If you're just tanking, so be it, the commish made a mistake by allowing you in. But that doesn't mean the world should suffer for all eternity as long as they can abide by the weak guidelines WiS has outlined.
