Happy with Rondo this late - nice rebounding, defense and asg

Since we already went into detail about Scud's team I thought we might look at mine:

                                                                                     usage             efg%          oreb%           dreb%            ast%

Elton Brand 01-02 Clippers                                      21.3               52.7            14.0             18.3                  8.4

David Robinson 90-91 Spurs                                  26.6               55.2             12.0            23.2                  7.7

Peja Stojakovic   03-04 Kings                                   24.0           56.6                3.1               13.4                   6.8

Fat Lever             86-87 Nuggets                              21.1             47.7              6.7                 17.9                22.6

Steve Francis       00-01 rockets                              24.4               50.6              6.6                  12.1               21.8

now for some intersting aggregate numbers:

Min         3PM    3PA       FTM    FTA          Oreb      Reb               Ast       TO       Stl         Blk             PF
           15628      396    989       1977  2476         1228      3778           1740   1028   657        562            1170    And a team salary of 39,146,360. Leaves me no bench money but I need very few minutes.

Compare those to Scud's team and they are eerily similar, allowing for the slight difference in minutes.  The one thing that stands out about these 10 players is really how incredibly valuable Stockton is in the Sim.

7/15/2010 12:17 AM
i would agree, robo, both teams look similar in certain ways... there is a bit of dreb deficiency though, even with lever's reb prowess, it will take all the moving parts working together each game to reach its reb totals, unlike having a rodman, russell, wilt, moses, gilmore, lucas, etc, cleaning the glass. everything else looks stout. fg%, stls, and blks are strong suits. asts a little thin but will be rectified in your next picks. francis and peja from the outside makes drob and brand's games more prolific. very nice job of drafting i think.

Well, for the 2nd straight year, I put together a team after making my first round pick, and ended up with exactly what I wanted. It worked out pretty well last year; I don't think this team is as good as that one (mainly because Shaq is such a beast) but I expect to make the playoffs again. I'm not sure if this is really a championship team though, and my biggest issue with it is usage. The starting lineup is fine, but when Malone/Allen come out of the game we're probably in trouble.

usage              efg%          oreb            dreb              ast               def

PG: 89-90 Darrell Walker                 13.6               45.5              6.0              19.1             24.8             95

SG: 05-06 Ray Allen                          27.6               54.4              2.6              10.1             12.2             50

SF: 72-73 Bob Kauffman                 18.2                52.4              7.2              18.9             14.5             50

PF: 96-97 Karl Malone                     32.7                55.0              8.3               23.4             15.6            90

C:  03-04 Erick Dampier                  17.9                53.5             15.6             24.4               3.4             82

BE: 06-07 Luther Head                    18.9                56.4              1.6              10.8              12.1            62

BE: 93-94 Olden Polynice               16.1                54.7             11.2             24.8               2.0             57

With my remaining money and minutes I'll probably mainly go for as much usage as I can get off the bench, hopefully relatively efficient, and maybe a wee bit off assists too. I think we'll rebound very well. I think we'll be above average offensively as well. I'm just not sure if we'll have the firepower to match the top teams. I'll predict a second round exit for this team (about my norm in the ODL) and hope for more

After my first 3 picks I realized this is a $42M league??!!! Hence my having to downgrade Tim Duncan to a Efg% 49 season.  But that's why I got Chris Paul, right?  You would think, I hope so....  Overall this is a good team not great, think will make playoffs but dont see a championship in this teams future

Hmm... still need 18 mpg at 2/3 and 12 mpg at 4/5.  Last ODL team got swept in the finals.  This one looks like more iffy.  I liked building around Pierce and Marion, but it may have been more appropriate with a higher cap league.

Most of these guys fell and were drafted as great values.  The only red flag I really see is that neither your PG nor your SF shoot threes.  Good thing is that your PF does.  That balances some things.  Your rebounding is somewhat concerning... while you shouldn't have issues because of your total creb%, sometimes the sim goes weird if you don't have two dominant board guys.  But the sim does weird random stuff all the time anyway.   I think this team could be great.

98average - Kevin Garnett, Mookie Blaylock, Vince Carter, Horace Grant, Detlef Schrempf

I feel board issues here... I thought KG would be your secondary boarder or even third... Now you've got Detlef and Horace... good rebounding backcourt, though, so that helps... This team has a lot to like... Just not enough I think...

coachcroft - Artis Gilmore, Jerry Lucas, Scottie Pippen, Mitch Richmond, Norm Nixon

I'm not crazy about Nixon, but this is a solid squad overall.  You got lots of goods and few of the bads.  I'm real interested to see if this turns out more of a 50 win club or a 40 win club.  I can see either happening easily.

bsmuke - Bob McAdoo, Carlos Boozer, Chris Mullin, Mark Price, Raja Bell

I don't like Mullin at the 3 (even though that's where he really played).  I assume you're putting him there because you drafted Bell.  I love the backcourt and like the frontcourt... just don't think that Mullin's gonna get the job done for you that you need at the 3.  Unlike some of these other guys, you don't have a dynamic rebounding backcourt to make up for the lack of boards from your 3.
7/18/2010 12:00 AM (edited)

1. Artis Gilmore
2. Jerry Lucas
3. Scottie Pippen
4. Mitch Richmond
5. Norm Nixon
6. Ed Pinkney
7. Courtney Alexander

This has been by far the most difficult team I've had to put together in quite awhile. There are certain guys that you draft and know absolutely which season you are going to use. Maybe there might be a close second, but that's about it. I have not used any of these guys in my last 50+ sim teams to the best of my recollection. I have no idea what seasons may be hot, so I tried putting together a team based on overall totals and it was difficult.

1. Gilmore- didn't want to use the monster 72/73 season. However, that season is being used in the 52M draft league and is in the top 10 in rebounding and top 25 in MVP. I'm hoping for a top 5 reb and top 12/15 MVP. Plus some of his lesser seasons have exceptionally high TO's and fouls which I couldn't afford. Against my better judgement in a way, but here goes nothing.
2. J. Lucas- Much of the same situation as with Gilmore. Nixon and Richmond rebound so poorly at the guards that I had no choice but to take one of Lucas' monster rebounding seasons instead of a more cap friendly one. In a 47M league I'm in 3 people are using the 67-8 Lucas and he is averaging 13reb per for all of them. So I will take that.

3. Pippen- boy what to do here. I decided to take a couple less rebounds and little less fg% for about 125 more 3's.

4. Mitch Richmond- not a whole lot of difference between his better seasons. Took the one with 225 made 3's. Hopefully Richmond and Pippen on the perimeter will compliment Lucas and Gilmore inside.

5. N. Nixon- A little surprised not more people use him. Mediocere defense, but 53% fg's, over 70 made 3's, over 9 assists per and less than 3 TO"S and fouls per game.

6. Pinckney & Alexander- just 1M fill ins that I've used with some success in the past. My bench won't light it up, but Lucas, Pippen and Gilmore all play over 40 minutes.

I rarely have a bad team when I reach the following team totals in a 42M league
1. 10,000 points/check
2. 400+ made 3's/ check 520
3. 2500+ fta/ check
4. 1200 ORB/1500 check
5. 4500 Total RB/ check
6. 1200 TO's/ just a little more 1.300
7. 1500 fouls/ check
