MIke's point: An owner in Coop or MG is "In Jeopardy" if they must win more than the absolute minimum win requirement for a single season in the world (i.e. if they need to win more than 55 games to this season to stay in the league next season they are "In Jeopardy")

plague's point: Every team in those world's could technically be considered "In Jeopardy" because they all have to win at least 55 games next season to stick around.  Therefore, the determination of a necessary win total to be "in Jeopardy" or not is arbitrary and he deems 63 wins needed to be "In Jeopardy".

Does that about sum the last two pages up?

My point is that an owner has to be "in jeopardy" of something.   If you're just going to pick a number(which is arbitrary), let's pick 98.  They are "in jeopardy" of not winning 100.   The thread is about minimum win rules.    One could assume "in jeopardy" would be a failure to reach the MWR.

I decided to do my own little study of the trading habits of the "in jeopardy" owners in MG.

eblake - 60
cretins - 60
njohnson78 - 56
fletchkd - 81
danmam - 62
mike1184 - 59

eblake-4 trades.    He gave up the older player(s) in 3 of his deals.     Dealing FOR prospects.
cretins-3-trades.  Two vet for vet.  1 for a prospect.   Dealing FOR prospects.
njohnson78-1 trade.  Vet for vet(and a couple of prospects).   Dealing AWAY prospect(s).
fletchkd-0 trades.   Stood pat.  Also lost his franchise.
danmam-0 trades.  Stood pat.
mike1184-3 trades.  Two vet for vet.  One prospect for vet(who was traded).   Dealing AWAY prospect(s).

Draw your own conclusions but it damn sure doesn't appear that the owners who were "in jeopardy" of losing their franchises at rollover went into some massive SELL!!! SELL!!!! SELL!!! program of ridding themselves of their future.

The new theme song of World Moonlight Graham:

Jeopardy, Greg Kihn Band

Where were you
When we needed you
Well you could not be found
What can I do
Oh, I believed in you
You're running me around

Well you can take it as a warning
Or take it anyway you like
It's the lightning, not the thunder
You never know where it's gonna strike

Our love's in jeopardy, baby
Ooooh-ooh-oooooh
Our love's in jeopardy, baby
Ooooh-ooh-oooooh

Don't be cute
Don't be funny now
It's later than you think
Oh, what's the use
Save your money now
It's hanging on the brink

Don't let go while I'm hanging on
'Cause I been hanging on so long
It's so hard to be all alone
I know you're not that strong
Yeah, yeah

Our love's in jeopardy, baby
Ooooh-ooh-oooooh
Our love's in jeopardy, baby
Ooooh-ooh-oooooh

[Instrumental Interlude]

Don't let go while I'm hanging on
'Cause I've been hanging on so long
It's so hard to be all alone
I know you're not that strong
Yeah, yeah

Our love's in jeopardy, baby
Ooooh-ooh-oooooh
Our love's in jeopardy, baby
Ooooh-ooh-oooooh
Our love's in jeopardy (jeopardy), baby
Ooooh-ooh-oooooh
Our love's in jeopardy (jeopardy), baby
Ooooh-ooh-oooooh
Love's in jeopardy, baby

Plague's argument is akin to the man who argues that he did NOT walk into an empty room, because the room was full of air.  The air was actually a massive number of molecules, each comprised of atoms, which in turn were composed of protons, neutrons and electrons, and so on.  In essence, there is no such thing as an "empty room" on the entire planet unless it is contained within an absolute vacuum.

You just want to slap people like that.  Repeatedly, until your hand hurts.  And then slap them some more with the other hand.

That's right, Al--You lost. And let me tell you what you didn't win: a twenty volume set of the Encyclopedia International, a case of Turtle Wax, and a year's supply of Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco Treat. But that's not all. You also made yourself look like a jerk in front of millions of people. You brought shame and disgrace to your family name for generations to come. You don't get to come back tomorrow. You don't even get a lousy copy of our home game. You're a complete loser!

tec, I got tired of plague's argument because we weren't argue over a difference of opinion as to what, exactly or vaguely, MWR did to the future of a team.   He began arguing what we should consider "in jeopardy" in worlds I commish.   It became fairly apparent to me that his statement "MWR will cause owners to trade prospects for vets when they should be rebuilding" was false.    He was intent on arguing, and I was falling into it, something else after that.   I deemed him off-topic but I see that ADMIN did not.
10/15/2010 2:22 PM
Then you should be slapped repeatedly as well.

MWR do not cause bad teams to trade prospects for vets. Why would you do that in order to survive this season just knowing that you will fail next? The point is to survive the bad years while rebuilding.

MWR do, however, cause people to sign middle and bottom level free agents in order to try to win the extra 5-10 games they need to survive while rebuilding. this results in less money available for drafting and international free agents. This actually can lead to someof the better teams having an equal if not better shot at top internationals than the bottom teams. Moneyball aside (the league was the first MWR league and still has the toughest requirements out there IMHO), I personally would prefer a system where there is a MWR but any owner not qualifying is subject to a vote out rather than automatic ejection. I think a chance should be given for a person to explain how they have improved the team, what the long term prospects are, and to prove that they just suck rather than are tanking.
10/15/2010 2:31 PM

I've said, for quite some time, that the players available at the end of FA are often good enough to win 70 games in most worlds.   In Foxx, under poiuyt, I put together a team of players claimed off waivers, players who passed thru waivers and players signed at the end of FA.   I think I won 80 games.   While Foxx isn't exactly a "quality" world, the overall talent is largely the same.   The 10m you need to sign 4-6 FA you can get at the being of ST games translates into 5m in prospect money.   That's not a huge loss in the draft or IFA.

As for voting on whether to allow someone who fails to meet MWR, I'm completely against it.   Everybody's buddy will get to stay because "He tried really hard but caught a couple of bad breaks" while the world *** will be forced to leave because "He just didn't put in the effort."

Actually 83 games.

10 million = 10 million unless you are already maxed out in your scouting and prospect budgets. I spent 95 million in player payroll, only 8 in prospect, 15/15 in College and high school and 0 in international in order to try to stay alive in moneyball this season, and even with waiver wire and leftover freee agents lost well over 100 games. I could have spent about 65 in player payroll, had 8 in international, even more in college/HS, and 20 in prospects which is what I would have done if not for the MWR - the huge fallacy of your argument is your assumption that in the #1 ranked world with the toughest MWR out there that the same type of players will be available as you got in Foxx.
10/15/2010 3:24 PM
108 games? Geezus, I'm not exactly a prime time player, and I took sergei's bucket of turds in Coop mid season and won 60.

I think if you load it all on payroll, the temptation is to spend large instead of spend smart. I can't see a scenario where you can't win 54 if you have a team for a full season. Sorry, I just can't, regardless of competition or original state of team.
