I have to say that I really have an issue with that Pedro trade. I don't think anyone else knew that you could make a move like that after locking yourself into an era. I know that schwarze is a stand-up guy. But when the commissioner is the only one who knows that a move like that can be made and then makes it for his own benefit, it seems a little shady. I have had several situations like that in my fantasy baseball league and as commissioner I have always put the league ahead of myself which is what everyone expects from a commissioner - they have to be above reproach. Maybe this isn't the same thing but it just feels a little funny to me.

We'll have to see how things play out and if it really turns out to be the big advantage that it looks like.

I have no issues, I thought this was pretty clear in the sitemail:

"Although there are no trades during the season, you may trade during the draft or before the season begins as long as the trade involves the same number of players/picks and both teams can field a legal lineup."

I'll get both selections in before my slot tomorrow morning. I'm finally set up at the new place.

I guess I'm in a no-win situation.
I guess I'm wrong that nobody read it that way. If so then I retract my concerns.

I'm right there with you, jfranco.

It's frustrating how everything shook out but I honestly don't think the trade itself will make a large impact on the actual league, especially with lots of drafting left to go.  I don't mind the trade itself, just the process through which it happened.  It would be nice going forward, though, to make sure ALL rules are clearly laid out ahead of time in the league OP so that these things can be hashed out ahead of time instead of in the heat of a draft.

I certainly didn't read it to allow a complete trade-out and recalibration of era.

I had considered running a gambit of picking the latest pick available to me (I think it was 18th) and intentionally punting my pick back to pick after everyone else had picked, because there's an enormous advantage to picking an era after everyone else. I decided against it, because even though it wasn't expressly prohibited by the rules, it was certainly against the spirit of picking draft spots when there were people that used the lottery to place themselves all the way back

If anybody notices an illegal player being selected, please post here and send a site-mail to that person immediately.  For example, since I picked Pedro in round 1, there's no way I can take Billy Hamilton in round 2.
I understand your concern jf.  You have to wonder if this would be allowed if brought before a legal review.  I believe it would not stand.  It seems to me that by selecting Pedro Martinez, and the draft proceeding as such, that schwarze established a time period for his team.  His own comment above states as much, "...since I picked Pedro in round 1, there's no way I can take Billy Hamilton in round 2.".  Then, his deal effectively negates that team and generates an entirely new and completely different one.  The deal certainly violates the spirit of the rules and I think it also violates the rules as understood by most if not all (paying) league members.
