I think I definitely contend for best DIII team ever for my
Lawrence squad in Knight - I recruited five guys in my one year of FreeHD, in the year where potential was first being tested out... three guards in the same class graduated 90/90 ATH/SPD, 70 DEF, and 70/80/80 in their cores. I'm not the coach that took that class to the NT, but you'll notice that one of the stronger programs in Knight over a 30-season period sprang up in one year basically out of nowhere - it's because Lawrence had five open in the glitch year. Recruit five in a year where your players are going +150 each for two years and you too can win multiple NCs.
Records at Lawrence: the three guards ("Superman" Mike Lane, John Ramage, and Elton Behler) shared a backcourt for four years and had 3690 points, 923 assists, 520 steals, and 924 rebounds between them. The PF in that class put up 837 points and almost 600 rebounds, plus another 141 steals of his own. And the fourth guard had 666 pts, 304 reb, 240 assists, and triple-digit steals himself. And none of those guys played more than 23 MPG.
That was a glitch, of course, when they were first figuring out potential, but boy, was it fun. And they never really lived up to their ratings, I suppose. But Lane would start for my Oklahoma State team today.
