looks like Bobby Knight's son Pat lands the Lamar job.

While working for his father at Texas Tech, Pat Knight kept an eye on Lamar and wrote a letter to then-athletics director Billy Tubbs, the former Oklahoma coach. When the Lamar job came open, Knight immediately asked his agent to help him pursue the opening.
“Growing up in Indiana, Butler was a school, Ball State was a school that were great jobs,” Knight said. “When we got down to Texas, everyone talked about Lamar. It appealed to me as one of those jobs, like a Butler or a Ball State.”
Lamar graduates 2 players, neither of which was a full-time starter. Their top 6 players return from a 13-17 team that was 9th (7-9)  in the Southland Conference

More on Lamar:

They were twice coached by alum Billy Tubbs (1976-80 and 2003-2006).  In 1980, they advanced to the Sweet 16 by upsetting #2 seed Oregon State 81-77

Fairfield hires Princeton's Johnson, Princeton is now open.
I wonder how much of a raise Sidney Johnson is getting?  That seems like a lateral move at best.  Very suprising.

Pat Knight made $1.2 million at Texas Tech. The departing coach at Lamar made $135,000.  I'm not sure what Knight's receiving but it's got to be a big drop from $1.2 million

Eastern Michigan has fired Charles Ramsey after 6 seasons.

Possible candidates, according to ESPN  are:

Ben Braun. Braun coached at EMU for 11 seasons from the mid 1980s through the mid 1990s and is the winningest coach in school history with 189 victories. Now at Rice, Braun has found wins hard to come by in three seasons in Conference USA, going just 32-63 during that span.

Michigan assistant Bacari Alexander could be another name on EMU's list. Alexander is a young coach, a native of nearby Detroit and has a reputation as a quality recruiter.

While a long-shot, another possibility could be current Phoenix Suns assistant Dan Majerle, who starred at Central Michigan

According to a report this morning by Bob Baptist of The Columbus Dispatch, two sources indicate that Ohio State assistant coach Jeff Boals is expected today in Fresno, Calif., and could be offered the job as men's basketball coach at Fresno State.

According to the Syracuse Post Standard, Orange assistant coach Rob Murphy has removed his name from consideration at Kent State after interviewing for the head coaching position. From the article:

"Kent State assistant Rob Senderoff, who was named the interim coach... is a favorite to get the job. Xavier assistant Pat Kelsey, Ohio State assistant Jeff Boals and Michigan State assistant Dwayne Stephens and Indiana-Purdue/Fort Wayne head coach Dane Fife have also reportedly interviewed at Kent State."

The Gottfried and Haith hires strike me as the two worst hires at decent basketball schools in a long, long time.  Alabama ran off Gottfried and he was an alum for gosh's sake.

Bryan Manning of 'Bleacher Report' writes of the N.C. State job search:

Did N.C. State settle on Gottfried because so many top head coaches rebuffed them?

N.C. State was waiting on VCU coach Shaka Smart. Smart turned them down in order to sign a new eight-year deal worth an average of $1.2 million annually. And Smart wasn’t even their top choice.

In recent weeks, N.C. State had reached out to Rick Barnes, Sean Miller, Ben Howland and Chris Mack among others. None of these coaches seriously considered leaving their current position to take the N.C. State job.

So why did so many coaches decide N.C. State wasn’t attractive enough for them?

For one, athletic director Debbie Yow has earned a reputation, fair or not, of being difficult to work with over the years. Her clashes with Maryland coach Gary Williams were so bad that it became an untenable situation for both sides. In June 2010, Yow left Maryland for N.C. State, presumably before Maryland could relieve her of her duties.

Today, when introducing Gottfried, Yow took a shot at Williams alleging he sabotaged the N.C. State coaching search with some of his remarks. Williams of course took offense to those accusations. The consensus opinion is many head coaches did not want to work for Yow, considering how she tried to get Williams fired on more than one occasion.

Taking a shot at Williams at her new coach’s introductory press conference is one thing. Taking a shot at Williams saying he sabotaged the coaching search is implying to Gottfried he isn’t the guy you wanted. While it is public knowledge Gottfried wasn’t the Wolfpack’s first choice, Yow should do everything she could to make Gottfried feel he was the guy she wanted all along.

i think arkansas made a bad move getting rid of pelphry this quickly. i thought he took them over in a pretty bad state and deserved another season or two to make his mark. i think they made a pretty good hire, though.  missouri seems to play a pretty similar style to arkansas when they were at their prime, although i am skeptical they will ever get near that level again.

old billy G picked up the job at tech... i guess its been long enough since his last DUI that he can be hired again? i hope he can get back on track down there, but he did some pretty ridiculous **** (and i don't mean drinking) at UK. i don't think he is going to make it long term unless he tones it down a bit, you don't want to have your players hate playing for you. he seems kind of stubborn though - never was willing to admit he was missing half the job at kentucky (being an ambassador of the program/state). if he is unable to look back and learn from his last failure, i really don't think he is going to cut it. but if he changes his ways, i think he could be pretty successful, he seems to have a pretty good mind for basketball.
