Orel Hershiser - LAD

Can someone sitemail for me please?
That takes my Dodgers off the board, and I'm almost giddy.
Lost two pitchers, but get to keep the one you wanted?
You're on the right track.

Hmmm... well, you could go with a hitter now, but then you'll probably lose two more pitchers next round.  Dodgers are tricky that way.

I'll take TSMOSSOAT+>E
The Single Most Overrated Shortstop Of All Time with more + plays than Errors.

Cal Ripken
A pox on him and his house!  Another vain and selfish player who put himself above the game.  Not in the same lack-of-class as HWMNBN, but a player bolstered by an unthinking, hero-starved populace who put him on a pedestal even when all evidence suggested he was holding back his team.  His fielding stats were hyper-inflated by official scorers who would never dare to hang an error on him and he was an inconsistent batter with a couple MVP seasons surrounded by a lot of mediocre ones.  Of 76 HOFers with more than 9000 ABs, he ranks 60th in BA (.276), 65th in R/AB, 67th in OBP, 59th in OPS and 46th in SLG. He was a very good player, to be sure, but we'll take a consistently clutch five tool guy over a self-propagating myth.
only half right. Cal wasn't selfish he was one of the good guys. His attitude and work ethic were part of the reason he was overrated -- same with Mike Scmidt to a lesser extent. you're right about the local fans, Cal was God in Baltimore. "the streak" was no problem when he was young but it did become a monkey on his back as he got older and tired. ending the streak was a hot topic most O's fans felt it would be like pulling a pitcher with a no-hitter in the 9th inning because he reached his target pitch count, probably a wise move but it would be unforgivable. He was a prisoner of the streak.

you didn't protect him because you don't like him. Thank you.

Page one update.  Red Sox off the board.

jose, man, I love ya, but you're crazy on this Ripken hate. I'm not sure what the fact that Ripken didn't hit as well as Ted Williams has to do with him being overrated. if you compare him to the 34 HOFers with 9,000 PA who didn't play first base or outfield, his OPS is an entirely respectable 19th--better than Robin Yount, Pee Wee Reese, Brooks Robinson, Red Schoendienst, Ozzie Smith, Luis Aparicio, etc.

and I'm not sure how anyone could be TSMO position player when DEREK FRICKIN JETER plays the same position. I mean damn.

Ummm, the Orioles need a high OBP, spark plug kinda guy. So, given that we just won the last leg and will not have a chance at winning this leg, we are going to pick HWMNBN, Cincinnati Reds.

Clearly someone has hacked into Jose's account.

We never said Cal didn't merit the Hall, unlike every one of those either guys you mentioned. (Yes, even the Wiz.)  He just didn't deserve that high of a percentage of votes on the first ballot.  And we're Red Sox fans, so don't expect us to run to Jeter's defense.

I think WIS might blow up after that last pick.

Have you no shame?  How am I supposed to take the high road when our leader wallows in the gutter.
