Put the stiffs out there and hope a sucker bites :)

I was spent after I took Fortson.  No diamonds in the rough for me unless they are a min player.

BTW sly, that player is PERFECT for a rest/ use him based on matchup strategy. I have the 5 min Rodman in the college theme league, I "rest" him 4 out of 5 games then when I play a team with good rebounding, SMACK, they have to deal with 20-25 minutes of the Worm. There are 4 teams in that ultra-competitive league with a record of .700 or better after 30 games, and two of them are mine.

plunke you may want to downgrade a player, at least I'm not one for throwing away my last 3 roster spots, which has worked pretty well for me in my brief time here on WIS.

Plunke?  Who are you calling plunke?

On a serious note, I currently have no wasted minutes.  I look at the minimum players, my last 3 players, as minute fillers.  They won't be used much in big matchups, or if I am lucky enough to make the playoffs.

sorry phunke, Freudian slip there.

Yea, if you are all set then you may not want to downgrade, but take my situation for example: I can go from the $7.3 mill K Love and two 239K players to the $4 mill K Love and two very useful players. By downgrading I lose a few shooting points and about 50 three's, but I get a BETTER rebounding K Love, I also drop 11 minutes a game of K Love.

For the 11 minutes of K Love I trade two guys that are useless for a $1.8mill 12min player and a $1.2mill 9min player both of whom board as well or better than K Love, meaning I traded 11 minutes for 21 minutes of basically the same production and I purged two useless pieces of crap in the process.

Oh, and to cap it off I get 12 more fouls from useful players per game.

Now, I suggest sly do us ALL a favor and downgrade Lebron back to his rookie season :)

So I have some time tonight, I'll analyze this group of guys pick by pick.

Moses is obviously a wise move on any team and you've taken the best season given the usage and rebounding combo, so this pick makes complete sense.

KG is one of those guys I feel that makes you create your team a certain way. At this point in the draft you had so many options, it is too tough to critique a second pick because you ultimately decided that taking a high scoring, rebounding small forward, was at this point more rewarding. So I can't knock it, I also feel like KG is never on a winning squad, anyone correct me if I am wrong, but have we seen KG playing on an elite 52 Mil team as of late? I just can't recall.

Duncan is a guy I haven't used in a single season based theme, though I have him in a progressive. High minutes again, obviously your starting PF and good rebounding. I am always shocked by how high Duncan's usage was during his prime since he doesn't score over 24 a game and has a comfortable field goal percentage. I can understand this selection, it is actually cool to have Duncan and KG together.

D-Wade: I understand the excitement in grabbing a guy that should never have slipped past the 1st/2nd round, however I think this pick is going to ultimately kill your team. So you've got Moses who has a sweet usage given his output and now you've created a clusterf*ck in terms of usage. I don't really see how drafting him helps you at all, it just detracts from everyone, again, someone with more knowledge and more winning attributes can correct me if I am wrong.

Paul Pierce: I pose this question, do you regret this selection? I am only asking because I feel like you made the pick and then realized how bad it was and decided to use one of his lower usage seasons to offset the choice. I get that his combined rebounding is solid for a SG, but there was so much gold still out there for the taking.

A sidenote, after five picks you have 1261 turnovers between your starting five. On the bright side, a ton of free throws.

Mark Aguirre: I don't understand this pick at all, was the plan to use a different season?

Reggie Evans: Awesome rebounding, low-usage, horrid defense.

Cory Alexander: I didn't even know he had a season beyond the min salary one that I always use to fill out my teams. I feel like the bombers are implemented here to push you over the top with limited minutes, but beyond that no substance.

Gerald Govan: a minutes filler, rebounds, makes sense, but fouls too much I think.

So my overall feel is that usage is going to hurt you badly.

I actually think you're passable on three's, turnovers not so much.

evil, thanks for the consideration

a couple answers: that season of  Pierce came up on a stat search profile matrix for per% x rebounding x D etc and Aguirre is 100% SG eligible

not sure why you dont like 10+ minutes of him or Alexander - my bench bigs are certainly filler but the back court is actually pretty solid (what have you got against tier 3 PGs with 14 creb 25 as 2.6 stl  44% per and a D of 61?)

as for the turnovers only one guy on the squad averages more the 4 in 48 and the TOVs are all 16% and under - I actually think the usage will mitigate

rethinking the whole winner picks the conference thing.. if we had 24 experienced draft league owners that might be fair.. but we probably won't..

so here is a draft version of my new thoughts.

Right around the all-star break of the current season, a post will be created and owners will be asked to confirm their commitment for the next season. After 2 weeks, any owners who have not confirmed will be considered as leaving and spots in the league will be advertised. Once we have owners for all 24 teams. Owners who have 2 teams will have one team placed in each conference. The remaining owners will be divided using random.org. I will put the names in a list randomizer and the top half of the names will go to the Eastern conference.. the bottom half to the West.

The Draft Order will then be determined within each conference based on the rules as previously described.

There were 12 items in your list. Here they are in random order:

ncmusician_7
steelers821
slymonium
bigkochman
seapilots
natenoy

phunke1
logain
wes4
scudmissle
xxevilivexx
felonius

So top 6 is the Midwest. Bottom 6 the Pacific.

Felon,

I don't like the 24 defense on Aguirre and I was looking at the full season for Alexander, not the partial, which actually doesn't look that bad.

A few thoughts:

I'm surprised no one took Anfernee Hardaway. I wanted him so bad but he never fit what I needed after my first three picks and considering the way the draft was going, I needed more boards just to keep up.

I didn't like getting stuck with the 4th pick. THE WORM WAS SO CLOSE. I missed the three gods of WiS...

I believe I'm the least experienced in the West... A solid challenge and I have an excuse in place if I fail this season! (EDIT: reading all these commentaries reminds me of all the considerations I forgot to take into account... oh boy)

How much money is everyone else left with? I left myself with a little more than 3 min salaries. Any of you guys save money for some undrafted sleepers?

8/16/2012 11:33 AM (edited)
There are some amazing guys that went undrafted.

I'll post that east/west comparison list later.. its pretty great.

I had a little more cash to blow out East.. in the West I got 3 very cheap guys that won't really play very much beyond late game fill in time.

Just comparing to the current ODL

all 1st round picks in the ODL got picked.

5 2nd round picks from ODL only got selected in 1 of our drafts.

4 2nd round picks from ODL went undrafted. (Mike Mitchell, really?)

And then its a total mess from the 3rd round on.

Sorry nate, gotta use LBJ's 09-10 season.  And yes, I also think that 52-53 Ed Mikan season is PERFECT!!  His efg%, defense and rbd% numbers are off the charts!
