I'll take the Brewers infield unit if someone paid me $20M.

Well, my main goal of the auction was to come away with KC's OF.  I am hoping the fact that my OF is basically set for the entire progressive helps offset the fact that I paid $53 million for it.  We will see soon see if it was a smart investment or not.

Helmethead has been logging onto the site but not answering sitemail.  If he doesn't respond by tomorrow night we are going to look for a replacement.  All units that have been sold would remain sold.  Bidding over the weekend would be suspended and all open auctions would be frozen in place (the 24 hour clock would not run) until at least Monday.  I do have someone on the waiting list, who I would sitemail first.  If he doesn't want in, I'll post in the classifieds.

Just how much is Johan Santana worth?

+1

All he did was check in to bid on Oakland way out of left field, suggesting that he doesn't really know the rules.  We're past halfway and he hasn't made a single legal bid and doesn't check his sitemails.  I don't see any reason to go out of way to keep him.

agreed

Agreed. I say replace him and put the auction on hold until we get a replacement. This league is too dependent on everyone being active in the auction to go too much longer with an AWOL owner.

First of all, let me start off by once again thanking gumbercules for doing an incredible job of streamlining this lunacy.  This has gone even better than I envisioned it, thanks in no small part to GQ's hard work.  It's like I stranded men on second and third with one out, and he bailed me out with a two-out, two-run double to take the lead.  Way to pick me up kid!

Regarding the helmethead situation, I say we start looking for an alternate now.  Hopefully the owner who signed up one spot too late still wants to jump in.  The good news is that the new owner will not be at a disadvantage, seeing as how there are still several owners in the same boat with a number of quality Units yet to be opened.

I want to discuss an idea that I came up with.  I know that changing the rules midway through the start of a progressive is usually a big no-no, but I don't see how this affects anyone negatively.  My idea involves the way the Rookie Auctions will work.  I think the Unit Auctions are one of the things that makes this league original and presents a new type of challenge.  I'd like to keep the spirit of the Unit Auctions intact as we go forward.

As of right now, all Rookies are slated to be auctioned off individually, followed by an open auction on all remaining players (non-keepers, players on IR for 2000, and undrafted players).  I want to change it to the following:

Following the completion of the 2000 season, owners will post their keeper lists the same way (no max, 1 Million per keeper for the first 20, 3 Million for every additional keeper)

After that, ALL remaining players in the 2001 WIS database (incoming rookies, non-keepers, un-drafted players from 2000, and un-drafted players who were on IR) will be divided into 60 Player Units depending on their real life 2001 MLB team,  Each MLB team would have a Hitters Unit and a Pitchers Unit that would be available for bidding.  Still sorting out the details in my head, but what do you guys think?

I think it would definitely make trades more important, because it would be harder to fill multiple holes with a single lot.

it would certainly streamline the auction process in the offseason, so we don't have to track a bunch of individual player auctions at once. Seems like an OK idea to me, I don't have very strong feelings one way or the other.

The Sabathia/Westbrook/Baez/Riske lot just jumped way up in value.

Utter insanity.  I like it.

Wow, so much going on here.  First of all, thanks for the vote of confidence, ct.  This was a great idea and although it's taken a lot of time and effort on my part (you have no idea how many spreadsheets I have on my computer just devoted to this league), I think the league is going to be a blast.

I'm not opposed to the proposed change, and we'll go with it unless I hear enough disagreement with the idea.  Again, I'm not a big fan for changing the rules in the middle, but it doesn't really affect what's happening now and I don't think it really alters the fundamentals of the league- I've seen that happen.  But again, that's down the road so there is plenty of time to discuss it.

As for more immediate matters, I am already actively attempting to replace helmethead.  The plan is as follows:  I will open Montreal in 10 minutes as originally planned.  All open units are available for bidding until midnight tonight, at which point there will be no bidding until further notice.  The clocks will be stopped on all open bids.

I'm hoping to open the two New York teams on Sunday, depending on how fast we get a replacement.   If we can get a replacement sometime tomorrow, that will be the plan.  That gives the new owner a couple of days to prepare and puts us right back on schedule come Monday.  On midnight of the day we start back up again, the clocks on open bids will start back up again.

Any questions, let me know.
