He invented femtosecond spectroscopy, which allows us to probe molecular systems on the timeframe of atomic motions.  Got a Nobel Prize for that.

Also receiving some substantial Nobel consideration for the invention of 4D electron spectroscopy (3 spatial dimensions and time).
