PBandJ, what makes Cowens no good for this league?
Is it the eFG of just 50.9%? There are not many centers who make many threes, so yes, there are modern guys with higher eFGs, but very few of them play more than 32 minutes a game, and many of them have usage down around 15%. I went for Cowens because I did not have enough money to afford 2 slightly better 5M guys to cover 48 minutes at center, so I got Cowens who covers 39 minutes a game for 8M. So 3M Mark West covers most of the backup minutes for both C & PF. Cowens is also 84% at the line, which is much better than MOST big men. That makes up for some eFG that he doesn't have.
Cowens
This will answer two questions....the Olajuwon one and the Cowens one. I will also throw in a commentary on Trae Young.
Olajuwon...if you aren't going to go with a premium season you should always go with 90-91 or 91-92. those short minutes seasons are nice and Dream doesn't stay in the game long enough to foul out. His rookie year was an exercise in patience as a Rockets fan. We knew he was awesome, we just wanted to see if he could figure out how not to foul everything. Believe me, there is no Olajuwon slander here. He is my favorite player and having had season tickets through the Olajuwon era and watching Phi Slama Jama play, a lot, my love of Dream knows no bounds. That season is going to be frustrating for you sir.
Cowens...he fouls a lot and his rebounds are good, but the eFG is a bit low. While he has a good FT% he doesn't attempt that many (about 3 per game) so while he shoots well, he isn't putting pressure on opposing defenses. Typically, this is a place that the sim is low on anyhow. If Cowens shoots more than 250 ftas it would be surprising.
Now to Trae Young....your league as a microcosm is a terrible judge. There is no Durant, CP3, Lebron, Curry, Giannis, Kareem, Wilt and others in that league. I am in the league as well. MVP races aren't always great judges of the best players in a very limited league.
