PBandJ, what makes Cowens no good for this league?

Is it the eFG of just 50.9%? There are not many centers who make many threes, so yes, there are modern guys with higher eFGs, but very few of them play more than 32 minutes a game, and many of them have usage down around 15%. I went for Cowens because I did not have enough money to afford 2 slightly better 5M guys to cover 48 minutes at center, so I got Cowens who covers 39 minutes a game for 8M. So 3M Mark West covers most of the backup minutes for both C & PF. Cowens is also 84% at the line, which is much better than MOST big men. That makes up for some eFG that he doesn't have.

Cowens

This will answer two questions....the Olajuwon one and the Cowens one. I will also throw in a commentary on Trae Young.

Olajuwon...if you aren't going to go with a premium season you should always go with 90-91 or 91-92. those short minutes seasons are nice and Dream doesn't stay in the game long enough to foul out. His rookie year was an exercise in patience as a Rockets fan. We knew he was awesome, we just wanted to see if he could figure out how not to foul everything. Believe me, there is no Olajuwon slander here. He is my favorite player and having had season tickets through the Olajuwon era and watching Phi Slama Jama play, a lot, my love of Dream knows no bounds. That season is going to be frustrating for you sir.

Cowens...he fouls a lot and his rebounds are good, but the eFG is a bit low. While he has a good FT% he doesn't attempt that many (about 3 per game) so while he shoots well, he isn't putting pressure on opposing defenses. Typically, this is a place that the sim is low on anyhow. If Cowens shoots more than 250 ftas it would be surprising.

Now to Trae Young....your league as a microcosm is a terrible judge. There is no Durant, CP3, Lebron, Curry, Giannis, Kareem, Wilt and others in that league. I am in the league as well. MVP races aren't always great judges of the best players in a very limited league.

PB&J—-just a little early to take Chris Paul but it worked out for me cause it led to my having a choice of Kareem, AD, or K. Malone later on. Interesting draft. I like the guys u picked but just don’t think they’ll fit together like u want. Kind of a good hodge podge. Just barely missing the playoffs and will drive u crazy all year long trying to figure out combinations and substitution patterns.
First, thank you for the evals.

Next, I agree. I have concerns about usage penalty that I could have for 6-8 MPG. I was trying to focus on possession problems and did something I never used to do...forget about usage.

It's true about the makeup of the league that Trae is in, but nevertheless he is putting up a score of 39 in the MVP scores. I'll be very happy if he can put up a 35 here and only be 20th for MVP. He's averaging 26.6 points and over 10 assists in that other league. If he gives me 23 and 8.5 here I'll be very happy.

Copernicus—-I know u are a fantastic player but I just don’t like your team. I know, I know, this is the ODL and has a $47 million cap but 3rd round is too early for Kyle Lowry. I have heard a little bit about Love having a recent season that is sneaky good but I am not buying it. Too much of a liability on D. Gilmore is an excellent pick and has several seasons to choose from. I think u are a good enough coach to get this team to make the playoffs, but I couldn’t do it.
1st off thanks for squeezing in these evals when I know you've said you've been swamped

my defense of the Lowry pick is that I was looking for a certain kind of player and he fit the bill - looking back at the last couple of drafts he kind of goes around there (I'm not scientific like ben or rob I just take a peek back sometimes) - I also knew I had a couple more picks in short order because of the trade

Lowry is good value in the third imo.

I played in a Best of WhatIf tourney about 10+ years ago and John Brisker finished top 5 in MVP voting in an ABA only league.

It didn't make Brisker draft worthy. Not saying Young is undraftable...if you are needing usage and assists, he offers that if you don't mind trading meh efg with no defense and turnovers.

Please don't hear this as me trying to push your ideas away, but you may want to consider how melding some new ideas to your extensive knowledge of the sport may help you here. I love your energy! Best of luck brother.

plus simmy MVP scoring is not a great metric for effectiveness towards outcomes - I've seen Wilt on a 20 win team lead the league in MVP scoring

Nothing strange about that. You can be the best player in the league on a team where all the other players are ****. Russell actually won more MVPs than Wilt because many people think that the MVP has to be from the best team, but we all see how much better Wilt is in the sim.

Dakjd—-what can u say? A team with Lebron always has a fighting chance to make the playoffs. Valanciunas is fantastic on O but limited on D. It’s like u got a couple 90 D guys and a couple 40 D guys. I don’t recall Korver or Ingles being picked so early. Yeah, they shoot a ton of 3’s but u probably could have gotten then in the 5th or later. I have been surprised recently at the SIM’s lack of respect for strong defensive players, so u have a chance to make the playoffs but your draft coulda been so much better.
Yeah I should have waited for ingles and Korver. I liked both of their eFG% and I liked Ingles’ assists from the SF spot, but I could have waited. I tried to cover up bad D from ingles/Korver/Valanciunas with guys like lebron, Ibaka, Kirilenko, and Isaac (from FA) but I think the sim doesn’t care about defense all that much at the end of the day. Even tho right now Kirilenko is averaging almost 4 blocks and 2 steals in 15 minutes per game which has to be helping me lol

The only thing I was right on was thinking midge had a title contender. Still happy to beat my over back to back seasons.

Do we usually wait until playoffs are complete to start the next draft?

Yes, because playoff finish partly influenced draft position.
