Midknight, you’ve got the 1950 Phillies and Cubs who give you a few good pitchers (Well, the Phillies do anyway) and some so,I’d lineup options. You’re well set in the outfield and have a good C in Seminick. Third base is pretty solid with Jones. You’ve got half a 1b in Cavaretta and some fairly poor options at 2B and SS. Also both team have exactly one 3b and SS.

My goal then was to find the worst overall team with only one 3b and SS and not too much help anywhere else if possible.

Meet the 1930 Chicago White Sox.

They do have a few pitchers who are usable at this cap, but they’re not really as good as the Phillies you have either. At best it’s a wash. As for offense, well their two best hitters are outfielders where you’re already fairly set. There is a punchless 1b in Watwood. There is one 3b and one SS, and they’re worse than guys you’ve got.

I don’t think this team makes any of your roster decisions easier and likely makes you a little worse at a couple spots. You’ll really have to dig to find a 4th team that doesn’t leave you very dagger-vulnerable.
Touche! I love all of these 1930's teams. At first glance even the worst of them give you the impression that they offer solid hitting. And then you look at the pitchers and understand why each team offers solid hitting.

redcped - After the 70 Senators, my Plan B was the 60 Cubs but they're not available. So on to Plan C - I gift you the 1940 Pittsburgh Pirates.

Same idea as I wrote in my previous massive, but this time I put Arky Vaughn ($6M) into your mix at shortstop. Hopefully this time, ermocito will be a better team player.

The '40 Pirates give you some better hitting options but similar to your '40 CWS. Rip Sewell is a good pitching option for you, but there's not much else after him.

If I'm not known for my vicious selfishness, I'm barely known at all!

This was an awesome read after spending some time on the franchise draft.

Glad you had a backup - I had one too, but it was far too generous for Beernoser!

I have ermocito's pick ready but there are still 20 minutes left before my timeslot ends so I will wait 15 minutes just on the odd chance the waiting will add a bit to his suffering.

With the 1950 Giants and the 1930 Phillies ermocito already has a star player at every position and this is even having the Giants the year before Willie Mays came up to the bigs.

There's an amazing Chuck Klein at $ 10 million followed by great years from Lefty O'Doul, Eddie Stanky, Monte Irvin, Wes Westrum, and Hank Thompson. In short there's already an all-star team with only half his teams chosen. Larry Jansen even anchors a pitching staff with a great $ 8.4 million season and even a reliever with a .88 whip over 132 innings.

So how do I mess with this team of stars.

The only thing I could come up with was budget.

I made rosters out of the best players from these two teams and added in a prospective third team. The team that I thought fit the least will be quite a surprise I'm sure. When I put their best roster together I came out at $ 116 million.

Lefty O'Doul and Chuck Klein are confident but they would rather have some protection hitting around them. Let's give them that with a third place (amazing isn't it) team from the same era. Chuck and Lefty, meet the Babe and the Iron Horse.

That's right, ermocito gets Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and the rest of Murderer's Row (except Bob Meusel who was sold to the Reds the year before).

Now most managers would look at Klein's $ 10 million salary and think they can't roster him and Babe's $ 11 million and Lou's $ 11 million, but ermocito isn't like most managers. To him it's a challenge to best, so expect a $ 32 million dollar heart of the lineup coming at you from ermocito.

Ermocito gets the 1930 New York Yankees

eman7400 - you can color me crazy, but for your 3rd team I am gifting you a World Champion: the 1930 Philadelphia Athletics. The A's have a few studs but most of them, particularly on the hitting side do not add much from what you already have with the 1940 Tigers and 1970 White Sox. Al Simmons at $10.3M is great if you can afford him. Jimmie Foxx is an excellent piece but so is Rudy York. Mickey Cochrane would be your best catcher, but you've already got some good options to mix and match with Tebbetts, Sullivan, Herrmann and Josephson.

The A's pitching only offers 7 to choose from. Of course there is Lefty Grove, but at $10.3M? Earnshaw could give you 300+ innings but he's pricey and not the same caliber as Lefty. The rest of the staff, all 5 of them, is not as bad as many of the others from 1930, but they are still flawed.

Last, for whatever it is worth, I almost took these Athletics with the 2nd pick in the first round and then using Lefty Grove until his arm fell off. Shows you what I know...

Some logistical stuff

I had accidentally pasted over the Round 4 on p1, now fixed.

The r3 screw for vilefileman is pretty late. If that pick gets in tonight, we can proceed on schedule tomorrow. But, if that pick is NOT in, we will need to pause before vilefileman hits the clock at 11am eastern.

For fairness, we need to give vilefileman time to ponder r4 and the full complement of available good teams. I will be back-channeling vilefileman for more details.

I bequeath to farleyfustle the 1950 Washington Senators

For Midknight had a very simple strategy I wanted to find the worst pitching that was left to go with the terrible Pitching of the 1950 Browns So I gift you
1970 Detroit Tigers You have below average SP a couple just above average RP but that it for pitching.
You get a Hof Al Kaline and a decent Jim Northrup and Willie Horton but you already have Maris and Mantle.

Just for a bit of clarity. We are not drafting on the clock Monday unless preeves gets in with his screw tonight. Is that correct?

Correct. No big deal if the first two pick, but no one should be leaping vilefileman since they need time to consider their pick after they get a r3 assignment.

I've been in touch with both vilefileman (travel day) and PReeves22 (work day), and I think a 24 hour pause will resolve everything.

R4 Monday becomes Tuesday, and Tuesday becomes Wednesday.

Dagger 1 target is Tuesday, with dagger 2 Fri and hopefully teams can get entered and approved for scheduling over the weekend.

The two owners before vilefileman can go today, but technically have until early Tuesday. No one behind vilefileman should jump ahead, but if vilefileman picks by deadline tomorrow, that will formally restart the clock.

Ribbentrop- your only weakness is relief pitching.Youre 1940 team didn't help. And neither will the 1970 KC Royals.
2/9/2026 10:00 AM
We are back. Confirming we are waiting for our 3rd round screw.
2/9/2026 9:56 PM
Vilefileman you got the 1950 Cardinals.
