Game 21: Luke Scott drives in six runs and Brett Anderson throws eight 4-hit innings as the White Sox send Montreal to another blowout loss, 9-1.

Game 22: Chicago rolls to a 13-6 win, building a 13-1 lead with 11 runs in the fifth through seventh innings. Montreal scores five late but doesn't really even make it close.

Game 23: Continuing their mini-roadtrip to Cleveland, Montreal chokes up a 3-run lead in the eighth but wins it in 10 on Melvin Mora's single... the potential lead run was thrown out at the plate earlier in that inning. Jason Frasor retires the side in order in the bottom half for his seventh save in a 5-4 decision.

Game 24: The Classics get two four-run innings, the Spectres commit two more errors, and Cleveland evens things out with a 9-5 win at Montreal.

The Spectres will host New York next to finish off the first round of divisional competition.

Game 25: The Spectres have five players with two hits each, with two homers sprinkled in, and get a great performance from Aaron Cook as they top the Mad Men 4-3. Jason Frasor allows a two-run homer in the ninth but earns his eighth save.

Game 26: The Spectres hit three home runs to help AJ Burnett to his first win of the season, 10-3 over the Mad Men.

Game 27: Ryan Dempster throws a 3-hitter and the Spectres explode for a five-run fourth inning as they top New York 8-2 to gain a piece of first place.

Game 28: Jason Frasor suffers his first blown save of the season, allowing a ninth-inning home run to Everth Cabrera, and the Mad Men start the 10th with three straight singles off Craig Breslow that produce the eventual winning run . Carl Crawford hits a two-out single in the bottom half but the Spectres can't score, losing 4-3.

Next up: home-and-homes with AL opponents Detroit and Boston.

Game 29: Yovani Gallardo allows only one run in seven innings of work, and Michael Cuddyer hits a two-run homer in the eighth to send the Spectres to a 3-1 victory over visiting Detroit. Arhtur Rhodes strikes out the side in the eighth for the win; Jason Frasor bounces back from his blown save in the previous game to earn his ninth save of the year.

Game 30: The Spectre hitters take a liking to Comerica Park, especially Jose Lopez, who has five of Montreal's 19 hits, including three doubles. While the pitchers don't have similar success, they hold in there long enough to deliver a 15-6 win. Dallas Braden even contributes with a two-run double.

Game 31: Held to three hits through seven, the Spectres and Brawn are tied at one as the Spectres come to the plate in the bottom of the eighth. After an error and a fielder's choice, Carl Crawford steals second, then third. What  a waste of time. The next three batters (Jose Lopez, Seth Smith, Dan Uggla) each hits a triple off Guillermo Mota. Boston brings in Trevor Hoffman, but he allows an RBI single to Michael Cuddyer before retiring the side. Spectres win, 5-1, as Brandon Lyon pitches a scoreless ninth.

Game 32: Montreal ties the game at six on Matt Diaz' ninth-inning double, then wins it in the tenth with two more runs, the second coming on a single by Diaz. Jason Frasor allows a leadoff single in the bottom half but retires the next three batters for his 10th save.

The Spectres now travel west to face their hated rival, the San Francisco 69ers.

Game 33: The Spectre bullpen tosses four scoreless innings and the bats break things open with three runs in the ninth as Montreal tops Frisco 7-1 in the series opener.

Game 34: Yovani Gallardo pitches seven 4-hit innings, striking out 12, but once again fails to get a decision, leaving with the score tied at one. In the top of the ninth, the Montreal offense finally wakes up, as the Spectres get a three-run home run from catcher Ryan Doumit and a two-run blast from Carl Crawford (his first of the season). Brandon Lyon finishes up and Montreal wins 6-1.

Game 35: Montreal commits three errors, including a costly one by Michael Cuddyer in the 10th inning, as the Niners salvage the series finale 5-4 in extras.

Interleague sets with Seattle and Orange County are next.

Game 36: In a karmic justice sort of game, Seattle's Jim Thome makes an error on the leadoff batter in the bottom of the ninth. Carl Crawford follows with an RBI double that ties the score at four. A strikeout and a lineout are followed by a walk to Dan Uggla. Junichi Tazawa exits, Daniel Bard enters. He walks Michael Cuddyer. Alfonso Soriano...BOOM!!!! WALKOFF GRAND SLAM!!!!!! Spectres win 8-4.

Game 37: Rookie shortstop prospect Isaiah Batten collects three hits, but is the only Spectre to solve Tim Lincecum, who throws a complete game 4-hit shutout to beat Montreal 5-0.

Game 38: Gavin Floyd pitches reasonably well until the sixth, where he is responsible for six Orange County runs while retiring only one batter. Only a five-run-bottom-of-the-ninth rally by Montreal makes it a close game. Michael Cuddyer's three-run homer makes it a 9-8 game with none out, but the next three batters are retired in order and that's the final score.

Game 39: Visiting Montreal outhits the Choppers 9-4, but doesn't do much in the scoring department off Josh Beckett, losing 4-1. The Spectres' division lead narrows to a single game; we host Milwaukee next.
7/25/2011 11:34 PM (edited)
Game 40: Aaron Cook has a typical Aaron Cook performance, and the visiting Bears pound the Spectres 8-3.

Game 41: AJ Burnett allows 15 baserunners in five innings of work... a rough way to make a living. Milwaukee wins, 7-4.

Game 42: Montreal drops its sixth straight game, 5-4, limited to four hits by Ross Ohlendorf and Frank Francisco. New York takes sole possession of the division lead.

The Spectres head to Houston to face the Lone Stars.

Game 43: Ryan Doumit's two-run homer sparks a five-run rally in the ninth, and the Spectres get masterful pitching from both Gavin Floyd and the bullpen to beat Houston 6-1.

Game 44: Yovani Gallardo suffers another tough-luck loss as his "offense" manages only three hits in a 1-0 shutout loss to Houston. Gallardo has the rotation's best ERA at 3.05, but is 0-6 on the season.

Game 45: Aaron Cook throws six scoreless innings and the Spectres hit three home runs on the way to a rare laugher, beating the Lone Stars 10-0.

Cincinnati is in town next.

Game 46: Montreal's offense goes back into hibernation, managing only four hits in a 4-1 loss to the Stingers. AJ Burnett's record falls to 1-5.

Game 47: Cincinnati makes better use of their hits than Montreal does, winning easily 10-6 despite a 14-12 disadvantage in the hit column. Ryan Dempster allows nine runs and takes the loss.

Game 48: The Spectres are swept as Mark Reynolds hits his 17th home run to spark the Stingers to an 8-5 victory.

Interleague sets with Kansas City and Atlanta are on tap.
7/29/2011 12:42 AM (edited)
Game 49: Melky Cabrera's pinch-hit single in the eighth inning drives home two runs and snaps a 4-4 tie. Montreal puts runners on base in both the eighth and ninth but can't score, losing 6-4.

Game 50: Montreal's trip to Kansas City is unsatisfying; Montreal hits two homers, both solo shots, but manages nothing else. Meanwhile they commit three errors in the field. Royals win 4-2.

Game 51: In Atlanta, AJ Burnett takes things into his own hands, leading off the third inning with a home run. It's one of three longballs by the Spectres, and they top the Farmers 6-4 for their first win in six games.

Game 52: Montreal falls short in a back-and-forth game, as Brandon Lyon allows two ninth inning runs and the Spectres cannot answer in the second half. Atlanta wins, 6-4.

We host Los Angeles next.
7/30/2011 6:55 AM (edited)
Game 53: The Spectres are outhit by the visiting Glovers 14-6, but Ryan Doumit's pinch-hit grand slam in the bottom of the eighth lifts Montreal to a 6-4 victory. Jason Frasor earns his 12th save.

Game 54: Yovani Gallardo's run support continues to be horrid, but he finally earns his first win of the season, limiting the Glovers to four singles over 7.1 innings of work (while striking out 11). Arthur Rhodes and Jason Frasor finish off a 2-1 win over LA.

Game 55: Jose Lopez hits a three-run homer in each of his first two at bats, and the Spectres reclaim a share of the division lead with a 9-5 victory over LA.

The second round of divisional play is next, with Montreal starting by hosting Philadelphia.

Game 56: AJ Burnett has two hits, including his second home run of the season, and the Spectres rout the Cold Stealers 17-5 in the series opener. Montreal has only 13 hits but draws five walks and benefits from three Philadelphia errors.

Game 57: Ryan Dempster can't even get through the fifth inning, exiting with a 7-1 deficit. Montreal rallies gamely, but falls short in the end; Philly evens the series with a 9-7 win.

Game 58: Josh Geer and a pair of Philly relievers hold the Spectres to six hits and a single run as the Cold Stealers take the series with a 3-1 victory in the finale. Gavin Floyd falls to 2-5.

Pittsburgh is in town next.
8/1/2011 11:41 PM (edited)
Game 59: Yovani Gallardo doesn't pitch as well as we're accustomed to, allowing two home runs and four runs in six innings of work, but gets some support from his friends for a change (including three scoreless innings from the bullpen) to earn his second straight win, 6-4 over Pittsburgh. Michael Cuddyer and Seth Smith have three hits apiece.

Game 60: Montreal snaps a 2-2 tie on Phil Reynolds' pinch-hit two-run double in the eighth. Jason Frasor, however, blows up in the ninth, allowing three hits and a walk before leaving with two down and men at the corners. Dallas Braden is no more effective, allowing an RBI single to Adrian Beltre. Melons up 6-5 after eight and a half. In the Spectre ninth, a single and a hit-by-pitch put two on with none out. After a fielder's choice, Michael Cuddyer ties the game with a single.  Evan Meek enters for Pittsburgh; Seth Smith wins it with a bloop single. Jose Lopez comes home with the winning run in a 7-6 squeaker.

Game 61: Ryan Garko has three extra base hits and drives in all four Pittsburgh runs while the Spectres are shut down by the Melon bullpen in a 4-2 defeat.

The Spectres head to New York to face the division-leading Mad Men, who have now opened up a three-game lead on us.

Game 62: New York proves very unfriendly as the Spectres are blown out, 10-1, in the series opener. Zach Duke throws a complete game 5-hitter at the Spectres.

Game 63: Montreal bounces back to claim Game 2, scoring single runs in each of the final four innings to clinch a 5-3 win. Gavin Floyd allows only an unearned run in seven innings and improves to 3-5; Jason Frasor gets his 14th save.

Game 64: Dan Uggla smashes three home runs and a double in four at bats, driving in six runs, as the Spectres take the series from the Mad Men with a 9-5 win in the finale. Yovani Gallardo wins his third straight start.

We now face Baltimore in an interleague set, our last before the All Star Break.
8/3/2011 6:41 AM
