Proof that the rich don't need more cheeseburgers.

What's the marginal value of a cheeseburger purchased here?

6/19/2014 10:08 AM
Do hamburgers have less marginal utility than cheeseburgers?
6/19/2014 10:45 AM
I'm getting hungry.

Also, LOL at the obsession with the guy you blocked.
6/19/2014 10:46 AM
I think obsession might be inaccurate.

I just think it's funny that he tried to equate cheeseburgers to money/taxes/retirement.     And a bit sad that he equated quality of life to purchasing power.

I take that back.  I think it's hilarious that he equated cheeseburgers to money/taxes/retirement.   I'm tempted to unblock him because it was several hours before anyone quoted that bit of dumbassery.   So I missed out on a couple of hours of laughs.

I said this to biz back forever ago when he blocked BL and continued to communicate with him, but generally when you block someone, it's because you don't want to deal with that particular person anymore. It's comical to block someone and then follow them into threads and continue half-conversations with them.

He tried to simplify an argument he was making so it was easier to understand.  Like you would with children.  "If I have 4 apples, and I give 2 to Mark, how many do I have left?"

I do like cheeseburgers, though.  A lot. So keep talking.  :)

"follow them into threads"?    I'm sure you're aware that I'm around quite a bit.   Some threads are active, some are not.   Which threads do you think I'm more likely to post in?    FWIW, I have a sneaking suspicion that he's starting threads to draw me into them.   You ask me about the Redskins.   Two hours later, after I said "Someone seeking a cause...", he starts a thread on the Redskins.   I think he has me marked as a favorite and creates some liberal bullshit thread knowing, as soon as there are enough responses for me to figure out his "point", that I'll post in them.   As I said when I blocked him, he shrivels and dies without me.   His first two months after I blocked him proved that.   He's just figured out a way to get his threads rolling(with you as his proxy lackey).

He simplified it in a stupid manner.    And, as he does, continued down that path in an effort to justify his dumbassery.   And that's hilarious.

Maybe he does like arguing with you and finds humor in you talking to him, even when he's blocked.

As you know, I do agree with his overall point, and the tax code seems to as well.  So it's not like the theory is invalid; you hadn't done anything to disprove it aside from posting specific examples about specific people and exclaiming "not true for everyone!"
6/19/2014 11:08 AM
And it goes without saying that the threads would be more dull had you not been here.  So take that for what it's worth.  It's not just BL, I'm certainly not posting as much if you got hit by a bus tomorrow.

To the best of my knowledge, we weren't arguing what the tax code is.  I think everyone knows it.   It is what it is.  I thought we were discussing possible improvements.   I'm obviously not in the "tax them more because they'll miss it less" camp.
6/19/2014 11:15 AM
And, FWIW, I think BL just likes arguing on the internet.   It's obviously why he created the username.   It's why he said "I post early in the morning if I know I'm going to be busy at work."  It's why he creates threads on controversial topics.   If someone else were around as much as me, he wouldn't need me.

Why else are we doing this?  We don't argue with each other because we hate it.  I enjoy this too.

The tax code exists because there are people who thought it was a good idea in the first place. I know it's not intelligent to argue "it's this way now, so that's a good reason for it" but to argue that a progressive tax doesn't make sense because the reasons it exists doesn't apply to every person isn't really a reason.

We play the games.   And, if he does have another username that plays, he hides behind his 2nd username to argue.   It's the internet, isn't that hidden enough?

A lot of things were good ideas that are no longer good ideas.   Sometime things have to change to improve the world(or country).   I think we agree that "poor" is becoming an heirloom that is passed down to the next generation.  I believe a major reason for that is there isn't much incentive to do better.   If someone is going to take care of your basic needs(the govt via welfare programs and tax breaks), you have to be motivated to improve your position.  I think we can agree that "motivation" isn't a trait everyone possesses.   So, IMO, when people are told "You'll pay your fair share regardless of your income", I think more people will find motivation to improve their income.
